Guest guest
In typical fashion, the mom who forwarded this to me doesn't mention the work she put into getting corporate grant money funneled towards this project, but I know this didn't happen without a lot of hard work on her part, so thank you Tarryl! For those who may be interested in experiencing grocery store shopping in a new way, please check out the info below about Whole Foods in Naperville. I'm unsure whether this extends to other stores? Sounds like a great teaching tool or ongoing support for individuals, young and old, who require visual supports to access the store. Great job! Subject: Message from Tarryl - Whole Foods Market Hands on Shopping List Hello Lauri, I work at Whole Foods Market in Naperville and I wanted to let you know that we now have a Whole Foods Market Hands-On Shopping List available for anyone with special needs. You can go to Customer Service and choose the type of shopping piece you would like on your shopping list. There are three types available. Choose from miniature items (toys), pictures with words, or words only. There is also a store map available that is color coded which matches the borders of the pictures with words and words only pieces. Sign out in the WFM Hands-On Shppping List Check-Out Book how many pieces you will take on your shopping adventure. Then take the WFM Hands-On Shopping List and a color coded map with you while you shop. Once you find the item you are shopping for, put the shopping piece in the bag attached to the back of the WFM Hands-On Shopping List. Then complete your purchase at the register and return the WFM Hands-On Shopping List to the Customer Service Desk. I am the Mom with two children with autism ages 13 and 15 and we have spoken in the past. I am really proud to work at a place that is so willing to offer this to our community. Braver is our Store Manager and he is the BEST. He truly wants to help those with special abilities. If you have the time, come into the store and take a look at the Whole Foods Market Hands-On Shopping List. We would like to get comments from everyone (good and bad) so that we can make it helpful to everyone. For example, we may need additional shopping pieces or more boards available. I hope that people will use it and it is helpful to everyone. Spread the word. Thank you. Tarryl Zdanky
