Guest guest
Hi Folks, I am helping a colleague of mine get her choir of adults with DDs to Chicago from New Jersey in March for the ACDA convention--more about that another time. She has several singers who have autism and was wondering if there are any Social Stories about air travel for the way we travel NOW. I wasn't sure we here at IPADD had anything in our files--pat downs, etc. are issues and she's worried about it. Do we have anything or ....? Thanks for your help. Gail M.--expect something from me about this toward the end of the week. Marie
Guest guest
Hi, I don't know of any existing ones, but think it's possible to write one's own social story to fit a particular situation-- breaking down the steps involved. From what I remember of them, there are usually some positive, emotional comments, e.g., " I was glad when Mom explained why we have to take off shoes. " " I was happy to see my purse coming through the machine to me. " Can't remember if s.s. are usually written in the first person, but I do remember creating some so my son, who's on the autism spectrum, would know what to expect. in a new situation. Guest guest
I did the same type of thing Bonnie. I would type them up and sometimes add pictures to them and we would review them before the event. H.
