I use social stories all the time and Easter Seals' Resource Room provides them

for free.  It is called Autism Famly and Community Resource Room.  This is a

wonderful resource room that is staffed with professionals just waiting to help

out.  They write and print social stories for me all the time.  They do free

evaluations and rent out support items such as books when they are needed.

Everything is free of charge you should check it out.

I did the same type of thing Bonnie. I would type them up and sometimes add

pictures to them and we would review them before the event.

Re: Social Stories for Air Travel

Hi,

don't know of any existing ones, but think it's possible to write one's own

ocial story to fit a particular situation-- breaking down the steps involved.

rom what I remember of them, there are usually some positive, emotional

omments, e.g., " I was glad when Mom explained why we have to take off shoes. "

I was happy to see my purse coming through the machine to me. "

an't remember if s.s. are usually written in the first person, but I do

emember creating some so my son, who's on the autism spectrum, would know what

o expect. in a new situation.

ubject: Social Stories for Air Travel

i Folks,

I am helping a colleague of mine get her choir of adults with DDs to Chicago

rom New Jersey in March for the ACDA convention--more about that another time.

She has several singers who have autism and was wondering if there are any

ocial Stories about air travel for the way we travel NOW. I wasn't sure we

ere at IPADD had anything in our files--pat downs, etc. are issues and she's

orried about it. Do we have anything or ....? Thanks for your help.

ail M.--expect something from me about this toward the end of the week.

Marie
