To get my son to take meds. I just put the pill on a spoon full of apple sauce.

It goes down in one swallow. It took a while for him to get used to the daily

pills. Do you take pills? Make sure she watches you do it and explain that you

do it daily.

Subject: medication issues

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get my daughters

medication in her when she doesn't understand the concept of why she needs to

take it. She currently takes 10 depakote pills a day and 2 risperdal and 2

lemictal. We are having some luck with the risperdal and the lemictal with

feeding her M & M's and throwing in the medication and that works 75% of the

time but the depakote sprinkle capsules are the big issue. We were opening them

up and putting them in yogurt for a while then peanut butter with crackers but

she is getting smart to this hiding technique and is spitting everything out. I

don't blame her as they are not the best tasting. We then switched over to the

Valproic syrup but that is just not working either. She won't drink it in juice

and will not take it along. We have tried a syring, a straw, cup and we have had

no luck. The depakote pills are huge so that won't work either. She is 16 but

her cognitive level is more arount a 2-3 year old. I would appreciate any imput

if anyone has had a similar issue and found something that would help. Thank

you.

We have tried applesauce and she spits it right out. The medication is bitter

tasting and she is very picky with food and drink.

My best bet with bitter tasting medicatio is a spoon of chocolate pudding. It

hides the bitter taste plus it is yummy. Terrill

Have you asked your pharmacist if there's anything that can be done about

the taste? I'm told they can do wonders, but I am a skeptic at heart.
