Guest guest
My daughter, , has a section 8 voucher which pays me rent as her landlord. We purchased a home in which she lives with a caregiver. The caregiver receives free housing and a salary as a pca from medicaid waiver program. We still have to subsidize some but not much so it is a great housing option for some. Jen is an only child and challenged with autism. She made it clear to me and my husband that she didn't want to live in a group home. This model gives her independence and the privacy she prefers. We've had the same caregiver for 7 years and they have forged a deep friendship over the years. Terrie Varnet ________________________________ From: " sunshinebeaches3@... Guest guest
Terrie, I agree with , thank you for sharing this info with us. Housing is always a topic weighing on the minds of parents. If Suburban Cook County is doing this right now, does anyone know if others are doing the same? Or if municipalities/townships ever get in the game, too? Our town, I know, receives annual Community Development Block Grant funding and based on what I've read, there's nothing in there that says they can't set aside some of that money to go to individuals versus the same old community service agencies that write grants for the funds. If anyone knows more about this, pls. share. And if anyone DOES move forward with this Cook County application (I can only imagine the lines of people) please keep us posted. Thanks! Guest guest
Section 8 rental subsidies are like gold. If you can get one, take it. You can use it almost anywhere you want to rent. I am working with DuPage County Office of Housing to secure some new ones for our county. We just sent a proposal in to request some new rental certificates for adults with disabilities in DuPage. We should hear in a few months. Guest guest
Thanks, . I'd never considered what Terrie describes where family owns the house, adult w/disability pays rent using the rental subsidy Section 8, and then pays for ongoing supports (or at least pays for some of the supports) using Waiver funds.
