Guest guest
Re: Magal's questions and comments about Coriolus VPS/PSK and Coriolus PSP on 4-3-05. 1. The Coriolus VPS is a protein-bound polysaccharide, the label lists it as a polysaccharide. Coriolus PSP is a polysaccharide peptide, which is how the label describes it. 2. VPS/PSK was developed in Japan, PSP was developed in China. 3. VPS contains 625 mg of extract per capsule, PSP contains 400 mg of extract per capsule ( the labels give you the information by serving size, which is 2 capsules). 4. VPS is guaranteed to be 36% polysaccharide but usually tests out at 38-39%, PSP is guaranteed to be 25% polysaccharide but usually tests out at 26-27%. 5. The Coriolus VPS, with more than 50% more material per capsule and 50% more actives mg for mg, ends up delivering twice as much active compounds capsule for capsule as compared to the Coriolus PSP. 6. When you do the math the VPS, mg for mg of actives, is a little more expensive than the PSP, but not to the degree suggested by Magal's email on 4-3-04. Many people are willing to pay this small difference in price between the VPS and PSP to reduce the over all number of capsules they take in a day. Also, although most researchers believe that the protein-bound polysaccharides and polysaccharide peptides are of equal therapeutic value, there has been quite a bit more research done on the protein-bound form (VPS/PSK). Also, and most importantly, a 36% polysaccharide mushroom extract will not be twice as expensive as an 18% extract of the same mushroom, it will actually be more than twice as expensive because the time involved to concentrate the polysaccharides, mg for mg, increases dramatically the higher you go in over all concentration. Finally, I suspect that the reason that continues to mention the PSK and PSP is that there are new people joining the group all the time and that the research on these materials is solid and demonstrates significant benefit. A problem commonly associated with surgical treatment is that it is impossible to know whether or not there has been metastasis from the primary tumor. However, the research has shown that metastasized cancer cells are vulnerable to a healthy immune response. Optimizing immune health by taking hot water extracted mushroom supplements can be an important part of an over all protocol to prevent the recurrence of the cancer. However, it is critically important that you use a hot water extract. Most U.S. companies, even famous ones, sell mushroom supplements that consist of un-extracted mycelium biomass or tinctures (liquids). These types of mushroom supplements have no chance of working. You must use a hot water extract (always sold as a dehydrated powder in capsules). You can know that you have the right thing by looking for guaranteed levels of polysaccharides, listed as a percentage (%), on the label in the " Supplement Facts " panel. If this information is not listed on the label of a mushroom supplement do not buy it. I would have answered these questions sooner but I have been out of the country. If anybody has questions or would like to see any of the research you can call me at 541-344-1396. Sincerely, D. Seleen
