Probably they called the company cactus, because the word cactus is widespread

and well known, whereas agave is not.

After you poked me to awaken (smiles!) about the stevia, I got at my books

again, and when I read the info, I thought I might pass it along. I took the

information from a college botany reader (Schmeil, Pflanzenkunde, Heidelberg).

Hyperonym: succulents.

if storing liquid in leaves: called agave.

if storing liquid in stem or trunk: called cactus.

Agave Cactus

Scientific Name: Leuchtenbergia principis Hook.

Synonym:

Family: Cactaceae
