Guest guest
.... " silver/amalgam " dental fillings, root canals, tap water, thermometers, vaccines (in the form of thimersol, as a preservative), some paint and silkscreen ink, batteries (unless labelled mercury-free), tennis shoes with the heels that light up when the person steps, irons (as part of the thermostat)(there is a mercury-free iron on the market, let me know if you want the info), fish, some contact lens solution (used to, not sure if they discontinued that)...and more I'm sure, I'll post them as I recall them. In some cases (like the tennis shoes and irons) the exposure occurs in the manufacturing process and when they go to landfills. Guest guest
Also in fireworks and explosives, and some of the older fungicides used on grains, agricultural property and golf courses. I don't think the mercury-based fungicides are legal to use anymore but the mercury from old applications never goes away. Also, it can show up in some calcium supplements like dolomite, carbonate and other earth-mined forms. Gaylen
Guest guest
IF YOU WISH FACTUAL INFORMATION ON WHAT CONTAINS MERCURY, GO TO messages/govinfo/1 AND BEGIN LOOKING. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TITLED " THINGS THAT CONTAIN MERCURY " MIGHT HELP, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GUESS. > ... Unfortunately, we did Dolomite for over a year before learning it sometimes contained metals. To be clear here, earth-mined calcium supplements don't always contain high metals -- they just sometimes can. Call the company that makes your supplement and ask for their testing on the product. Many are very willing to provide the info if you explain why. The only brand that totally refused to send me written studies they'd done to test for toxic metals was KAL. They told me the levels over the phone but refused to send it in writing. Gaylen
Guest guest
From what I understand, the mercury in irons is in the thermostat/thermometer within it and would only be released if that thermometer/thermostat were to break. I would guess that could happen if one were to drop it. I'll have to go home and check the brand. I have only seen one which specifies it does not have mercury. I believe Black & Decker makes it. I ordered through Harmony/Gaia catalog and don't remember the price. I have a recent catalog from them so I'll check to see if they still have it in there, and if so give you their 800# or website. I also like it because it has an automatic shut-off. If you forget to turn it off or unplug it, it turns itself off after a set amount of time.
