Hi,

I had the original account concerning Diamond and his recovery, but I lost

it

in a computer crash.

Someone sent this to me recently.

Cliff

*********

Cliff,

This was on the Sheltie Naturals list and I thought it would be

of interest

to you...

Diamond featured in the Whole Dog Journal

In the August 2000 issue of Whole Dog Journal, there is a great

article

written by Barb Hamlin, a dog owner from Michigan. Hamlin tells

the story of

her German Shepherd's recovery from soft tissue cancer -- which

did NOT

involve chemotherapy or radiation. Instead, Hamlin employed a

nutritional

approach she found on the internet. . . . This approach was

developed by a

German scientist, Dr. Joanna Budwig, who has written several

books about her

successes in treating all sorts of cancers with a supplement

made of cottage

cheese and flax oil. Dr. Budwig's most recent book is 'Flax Oil

As A True

Aid

Against Arthritis, Heart Disease, Cancer, and Other Diseases'.

Hamlin gave her dog 1/4 cup of low fat cottage cheese and 1 1/2

tablespoons

of Barlean's Organic Flax Seed Oil two times a day, as well as

supplements

such as vitamin C, vitamin E, juiced vegetables, and digestive

enzymes. She

also fasted her dog once a week, and withheld any vaccinations

or chemical

flea or tick treatments. Within three months, the tumor had

completely

disappeared.

Hamlin describes her protocol thoroughly in the WDJ article,

which is

available for purchase from the publisher, Belvoir Publications,

by calling

800-424-7887 or writing to customer_service@b....

As of October 2000 Barb reports that Diamond is doing great!

Pat,

J wasen't to bad today. We went to the stores and he got a little loud......Of course most people know J in the stores and they are pretty good with him. A few taps but that was all. He is in the kitchen sitting in the chair listeing to his "Rock" music right now! haha! Tom Petty is his favorite and he also Likes "Stairway to heaven" by Led Zapplin (sp)? Lois

I think Karac probably listens to Led Zapplin (I don't know how to spell it either) because his Dad likes that kind of music. With me Karac listens to country western music. He also likes Sheryl Crow because one of his therapists knew her and gave him an autographed CD.

Karac was good but loud today. Have a goodnight's rest. Love and blessings, Pat K

Pat,

I think he is doing a little better "Because" he has been home for 4 days. J won't go back to awakenings until tuesday. They say he does well there BUT everytime I get him and get home he starts the hitting up. Lois

If he is like Karac, he does well at school because he is able to control himself all day, but by the time he gets home he is at his limit and he just has to decompress. Karac goes out in the backyard and paces and makes weird verbal noises to decompress. Do you think that tapping on you is J's way of decompressing?

Karac does better when he is out of school too. Love and blessings, Pat K

Pat,

I think you are right. The problem here is that it is getting cold out now and J can't stay outside like he does in the summer. In the spring, summer and early fall he is pretty good but the winter when he can't get out in the yard and go swimming that is when he gets worse with behaviour.

J has a "sun" lamp that we got him a couple of years ago and they kept it at school and then we moved it to awakeings but they haven't used it yet. I am thinking of bringing it home and using it in the evenings and maybe that will help J some.

I think he has "SAD" "Seasonal Disorder" I get it in the winter. Lois

I understand that; I call the winter months the "dog days". Karac's behavior is negatively effected by cold weather when he can't get outside. It helps to have take him to the mall to walk, and I can also take him to the rec. for indoor swimming. Fortunately, in Texas we have a short winter. Today was cold and rainy, but Ermil took Karac on a walk to the park anyway.

That's interesting about the sun lamp. Let me know if it helps. Love and blessings, Pat K

Well, Karac slapped the music therapist last night. He wanted him to take his glasses off and the music therapist didn't want to take off his glasses. Fortunately the music therapist is calm so it didn't escalate and they returned to playing the piano. Have a good day. Love and blessngs, Pat K

Well.......Jake had a Dr's appoint. this morning so when I was taking J to awakenings his friend stopped and picked him up and JJ kept saying "DAD-DAD. I told him "JJ-Dad went to the Dr. he will be back in a little bit" I got him to awakeings and he was STILL going on about it. "" had him today and took him to the mall and she said he did great there and when they came back he got on the swing and then went to lay down a bit but then wanted to get back on the swing... told him that someone else was on it and they had to wait...(Normaly J is good waiting) Well-He hit ! 3 times! She had to go in another room to stay calm and then came back in.

When I picked him up he got in the van and she told me what happened. I told her to be REAL tough with him and not let him think he is in charge. She said yes-She will. I got in the van and I said "JJ-What did you do?? He said "Don't hit" I think he got to thinking about dad going to the Dr. and got mad about it.

He came home and slept for an hour and I had to wake him to eat supper. Then he got his tape player and listened to music. After that I was getting his snack ready and he hit me! I took his books and he is NOT to get up until bed! Ok-Sorry so long.........YEESH! Lois

Tuesday was a better day; Karac did great at gymnastics. We don't know what was going on with Karac Monday unless he was upset that Konrad went back to California.

and the little kids are flying out to seen Konrad for Christmas and I will be keeping Karac. I will need lots of prayers because Karac is going to be very hurt that he doesn't get to go. Well, we will deal with it. I hope you had a good day. Love and blessings, Pat K

From Dec. 24 until Jan. 2. Karac may have a huge fit too. I told my son that he would have to pray for us every day. I have kept him like that in the past, but has weaned him away from me and I haven't had Ayden before. I'm glad that Karac and his mother are very close now, but it is going to make it very hard PK

Re: Diamond

How long will he be gone Pat? J would be having a HUGE fit. Jake goes around the block and JJ loses it. Lois

Pat,

Does your DIL have a computer with a camera? Maybe they can "call" thru the computer every night before bed. When Steve, my husband, was in OK for school a month ago we were so worried about the break in the routine also. My husband and the kids and I talked each night. I think it's thru MSN that have the camera and microphone setup program that we used.

I'm afraid that would upset Karac even more and remind him of the fact that they had gone without him and that they are with a favorite aunt. Last year when his mother called on the phone and talked to him it made things worse. I have just got to find a way to keep him busy and help him pass the time as quickly as possible. I pray that the weather is nice so he can ride his bike and go for walks. I also pray that doesn't leave town for the holidays. I know it will work out. God always surprises me with the amazing ways that he helps me. Love and blessings, Pat K

There is a rec where Karac use to go; if they are open during the Christmas holidays, that will be a God send. That is where I met ; he use to work there. He is going to find out if they are going to have any special holiday activities. That would be awesome. I know God will provide. Pat K
