Manipulation of Science- Union of Concerned Scientists credibility

There is no more credible independent scientific organization in the United

States than the Union of Concerned Scientists. They have more Nobel Laureates

than any other organization. They have no commercial ties as an organization

although most are faculty of research oriented educational instiutions. Their

analysis of the dangers of the civilian uses of Nuclear Power are excellent

exposes from scientists who at one toime worked in the Nuclear industry. As for

global warming, the overwhelming scientific opinion about an admittedly

unprovable theory tends to support warnings about our excessive use of fossil

fuels to

bring accumulating physical stresses on the balance of the earth's

atmosphere. In order to relieve the stresses the earth has to compensate to

restore a

balance. Therefore we have seen great increases in the frequency of severe

hurricanes, eathquakes and other natural occrrences usually referred to by

insurance companies as " acts of god. " They have no shortage of extremely

knowledgeable sources unequallee by anyone. Whereas their detractors have very

strong

commercial ties and sometimes even financial ties to the industry the are

defending. Many conservatives an supporters of extensive military expenditures

at ALL

costs object to them as having a " liberal " orientation. Many have worked for

the military-industrial-complex. Their detailed papers showing the real

shortcomings of the military tests of some of the inadequate weaponry are very

enlightening and really NON-PARTISAN, if you can believe that. Conservatives and

Realists should also be convinced of the logic of a sound defense that does not

invite further aggravation of world hotspots-That I must admit is political,

but still I feel worth the effort.
