Guest guest
hi varian, i can't tell you any url's (the one joanna and i went on this morning <uk time> was the pregnancy chat which you can access directly from the site), but my advice would be to do it with someone else! it is so much easier if there is someone else on your side! if we all went to educate the parent boards and chat rooms in pairs, we'd get kinda maximum reflection... one person might sound like a loony, but if there are two people in a chat room (or board) at the same time, then it doesn't quite sound as lunatic anymore... and disregard any abuse, it's kinda normal to get it for displaying a different point of view. just think that you're sowing seeds, some will grow others won't... good luck! claudia --- Varian Gray <edenhope23@...> wrote: > > Hi, > Can someone please tell me how and where I can find > and get on to a parent board. > Varian > Sheri Nakken <vaccineinfo@...> wrote: I > encourage you ALL to get out there on other list > once you've been here > for awhile. > It will help you learn - if you don't know the > answer you can go look it up > and give them a link off of one of our pages. > it is the best way to learn and also make a > difference > Go find the different parent boards out there! > > Thanks > sheri > > At 07:32 AM 05/04/2002 -0700, you wrote: > > > > > > Ives <mives@...> wrote: > > > >Yes, Sheri, I've been giving our your url and > Sandy's url like crazy > whenever vax discussions come up on the AP list I'm > on. Guest guest
Thanks , I just want to go in for a " lookysee " . I'm too much of a coward to go in on my own and I don't think I know enough yet to be able to get into a verbal discussion with anyone and be abused at the same time. I think I need to be sure I have at least some of the answers. Anyway I am waiting to see what happens when you do the " cop thing " as Sheri suggested and go in with Joanna!!! {Chuckle!!} Sorry, but it just sounded so cute when Joanna posted that info. Guest guest
Also, I think the good guy/bad guy routine may be good, where one of you converts the other, the others in the room that may be abusive can then see that others are willing to be more open minded.. Guest guest
Hi Varian, One way to do it is to go to the page and search the directory for parenting groups. I moderate one which is for UK parents, but we're already mostly converted! www. and put " parenting " into the search box. Mothering have got a parenting forum, as have UKParents if you're in the UK. The BBC (in the UK) have got parenting fora too. Try a google search for parenting websites www.google.co.uk HTH. Guest guest
I don't know how it's going to be possible to weed out any lurker who may want to either disrupt our forum, or pass on information they glean from us. I mean, what's to say someone gives a completely bogus background on themselves and uses it go get onto this website? How is Sheri supposed to be able to weed that person out? If someone who has contrary views with most of us on this website feels its necessary to hack into our forum, could it be because they somehow feel threatened, somehow, by the information on our site? I hope Sheri can find out who this is, but I wonder if it's going to prevent someone else from doing the same thing. Kim Re: Re: (OT4VAX) bad experience > > A " lurker " sounds awful!! Guest guest
Hi Joanna, Well here is the honest truth. I am totally internet illiterate. Everyone on this site seems to know so much and I am just learning about how to use all the links to find out more info. In addition I really hate being abused. If I am sure about what I am talking about I can hold my own in any debate, but I just hate abuse. Can't see a reason for it. And I really hated that creepy site I visited recently, I don't even remember his name, but I know you made a reference to an article on it. I have still not got up the courage to visit a parenting group, the reason being, despite the fact that Sue gave me instructions, I have no idea how to get onto these sites so I have been hedging until I can work it out. I know a lot of the B/S propaganda that is on the web because I have been onto a lot of the gov. sites from around the world and with the way they use so-called " scientific evidence " to strengthen their argument, you can't blame anyone who wants to have a family wondering if they would be doing the wrong thing not following their advice. That is why I would like to visit a parenting group, just to see what they believe and why. And 'interested bystander' may not be accurate either. Because I would really like to give people a shake and say, " it doesn't matter what you believe, there are two sides to every story, and you should at least listen to an opposing point of view before you make a decision, you owe it to any child you bring into this world " . Well now you know, and I've just got all my frustration off my chest. So if you would like to give me explicit instructions on how to get onto one of these sites (and not consider me overly stupid) I would still like to check them out. Also, how do two people get on the site together if they want to do Sheri's " cop " thing? Guest guest
Varian, Still wandering around the internet lost most of the time myself. Scared the hell out of me at first, both the internet and getting abused, but like most things in life, time fixes things. I'm not exactly a wizz on finding these parenting groups and could use a few tips from others???? Major hintage here guys!!!.... As far as teeing up to go 'visiting' together, either contact by email to make a time and place, one can give directions to the other, or get online in a chat room and go 'surfign together'.. It's not much different to meeting up with a friend to go visiting really...lol Joanna Varian Gray <edenhope23@...> wrote: Hi Joanna, Well here is the honest truth. Guest guest
Hi Joanna, Bit the bullet and went into (wrong place I found out). Clicked on Vaccinations and got our group and almost died. My last message to you was there as plain as day. Had no idea that what I wrote to the group would be on the net for all the world to see. I guess I always thought that everyone just wrote to each other and everything was private. So how naive am I?? Finally found Chat, went through loading some Applet, then got message that said: Please note as a new Chat user your preferences have been set to the strongest settings word filter: strong Ignore invitations to join a room, Ignore private messages from strangers. (Oh! great) Finally got on and it said Parenting 1. On the right side there were faces against names and my name had a star against it. I think because I had not entered the chat. They were talking about pregnancy, husbands, boyfriends, colour, size of kids, ex-husbands. No one mentioned vaccinations or doctors. I watched for around 15mins and dearly would love to have said " Sooooo! What does everyone here think of child vaccination? " , but I did not know HOW to do that and secondly " curious coward " was her own and with warning from and Joanna, no way was I going to get in there. Going to practice on a Gardening or Cooking Chat site (can't say the wrong thing there) and then we're on, if your offer still stands. Guest guest
Varian, also has an ADD room, but they also just talk about their boyfriends etc. Sad isn't it. I'll bet you that in the gardening and cooking rooms they talk about their boyfriends too!!! LOL Joanna ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Joanna, OK here I go again but what is an ADD room? Yes it is sad, our site is so busy with so much info and they have no idea (or don't appear to have) about what is going on around them. Guess that is not their fault entirely. Propaganda is pretty strong. Shall let you know how I do with the Gardening and Cooking if you tell me what an ADD room is. Varian
Guest guest
Hi Varian, Its the Attention Deficit Disorder room, where one would assume the topic would come up occassionally.......
