On July 13, President Obama released his much-anticipated National HIV/AIDS Strategy for improving the health outcomes of HIV-positive people, reducing disparities in health outcomes among people with HIV and reducing new cases of HIV infection. Project Inform served as a member of the steering committee of the community-based coalition that asked that the Strategy be written, and provided significant input into the development of the plan. In this article, we both summarize and comment on what we see as a major step forward in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Read more. The 2010 health care reform will extend insurance coverage to many uninsured people with HIV/AIDS, including the new Federal HIV Risk Insurance Pool program established this summer to help cover costs before 2014. On June 28, the National Institutes of Health announced the availability of $8.5 million in funding for HIV cure-related research in the name of Delaney, our Founder. In this article, we discuss Project Inform's ongoing advocacy of the effort to find a cure for HIV infection. Read more. President Obama releases $25 million in ADAP emergency funding. President Obama recently announced he is providing $25 million in emergency funding for ADAPs in crisis. However, this is far short of what is truly needed. Read more. Atripla co-pay program to cover more people. As of July 1, the co-pay assistance program for Atripla has been revised and will essentially benefit all people living with HIV with private insurance who pay any out-of-pocket co-pay fees. Read more. Switching to Isentress from protease inhibitors appears effective. Results from the 48-week SPIRAL study show that switching to a regimen with Isentress from a boosted protease inhibitor regimen (mostly Kaletra and Reyataz) results in equal suppression of HIV and may also improve blood fat levels in some people.
