Guest guest
I talked to the school board president and found he didn't even know the practice was going on in the jr. high. We live in a small community so everyone knows everyone else. I had the same questions that some of you referenced in your response - i.e. is this part of a life skills class and do they have the opportunity to be employed at other tasks. The kids do get paid and one young man said he had a check for $18.25, but I don't know if he was taking that home or if there is a special account that is managed there. I wouldn't have a problem with it if they do other jobs too such as assisting the librarian or the office. Maybe they do - that is what I am trying to find out - exactly what the program is. I was just curious as to what is going on outside of my small world since I have no experience here myself. My daughter, Nina, is only 2. We will be entering Early Childhood next August which seems WAY TOO SOON!!! She is my baby!! Texas Monthly ranked all the schools in Texas and our elementary ranked 5 stars (highest) and our high school ranked 4 stars. Our jr. high had a one star rating! Pitiful. They are really struggling at that campus. My other daughter started there this year and I have already had problems with 2 teachers who do NOT teach. She has been a straight A student every year and has already had 2 B's mostly because of boredom. She just drifts through this one class because it is mind numbing monotonous reading out loud and then answer the questions in the back of the book. The teacher is a really nice man, but this is a big problem for many of his students. The situation with the spec. ed. students just hit a nerve and I will most likely question most anything they do. Well thanks for your input. We will continue to dig.
