Hi ,

I wish I had known who you are because my family went to the buddy walk also.

We were near the front of the line. It was more people than I had imagined.

This was our first buddy walk to attend. My son loved dancing to

Hickman. If you watched the dancing, he was the one with bright red hair.

He is 10. I think next year, they should plan for more food vendors to be

there. Luckily we brought a picnic lunch because there wasn't a lot of food.

I think they could have made a lot of money off selling pizza alone. I am

from Denton and we had a group from Denton there. It was a beautiful day. I

didn't realize that this was the first buddy walk for Dallas.

Hi,

I was glad to hear that the Dallas Buddy Walk went well. I think anytime

there is a gathering to promote acceptance and understanding of our children

it is cause to celebrate. That is just what we do here in Belton at our

Buddy Walk. We are hosting our sixth walk. If our numbers increase as they

have in the past we should see well over five hundred people here. All of

our food is donated by the local VFW Post 4008 and several of our local

businessmen. They also do the preparation, delivery and serving. It helps

free us up to visit with people who attend the walk and so we can enjoy the

games and activities with our kids. We all just enjoy the day so much. I

hope everyone will try to locate a walk near them and attend if they can. As

the founder of our support group, Downs But Not Out, and the Mom of a great 9

year old girl with Down syndrome, I have been approached every year after the

Buddy Walk and told what the experience meant to them. What they don't

realize is what it means to me. God Bless, Gwen

I AGREE!!! They had no idea how many people were going to show (FAR less than

1/2 pre-registered) and they learned a lot as you always do when it is your

first try at something. Tonight's board meeting focused on the positive but they

will discuss all the changes that need to take place for next year. We'll meet

next year if not before!

(who on Sunday had 2 very tired boys who went to bed TOOO late Saturday

night - (DS), 6 1/2 and , 4 and sweet baby , 7

months)

OH!! I forgot to mention - there were 573 walkers!! This does not include all

the people there to help in various capacities or cheer, etc. You are so right -

I got a lump in my throat just watching all these people together - simply

because they love someone with DS. Especially in light of what has been

happening in the world - it is a much-needed reminder that most people are truly

good. And what a great idea to have the food donated. I will pass this idea on!
