Guest guest
, I also wanted to mention Hershey, PA, which is just outside of Lancaster and of course, the home of the infamous Hershey chocolate!! They have a winterwonderland at their amusement park that time of year. It is a great time for kids as well as adults, and is a spectacular sight. They also have tours of the chocolate factory and who can forget the hershey kiss lightposts that line the downtown district. If you'd like to e-mail me with your address, I can get some info. off to you. Traci

Guest guest
, what does it matter what we can see? Does this place have a bar? LOL, I'm only half kidding! I crack myself up. Made a great Fuzzy Navel tonight. Used Pineapple-Orange-Bannana juice. Yummy. Better limit myself to one of these! LOL Beth

Guest guest
ahhhh... Lancaster... beautiful area and they have some restuarants that serve family style all you can eat.... they just keep bringing out bowls of very good, hot, not really low colesterol type food until you can not eat anything else... the two I can think of are Plain and Fancy or Good and Plenty..... they is also the Dutch Wonderland there,,, not as big as a great adventure but somewhat more family oreintated... most stuff is not as open on Sundays ... Intercourse PA has a nice area with lots of little shops and you can see them making homemade jams and chutney.... It is called Kitchen Kettle Village.. they also have homemade fudge shops, woodworking and other crafts like candlemaking and home decorations.... you can also have hay rides drawn by mules or horses.... you can buy replicas of many of the clothing and lots of other little knickknacks... hope this helps

Guest guest
This is sooooooooo cool that you have chosen Lancaster or Hershey! Finally I can drive one hour to see you all instead of five! I think the Hershey idea is cool because of the winter wonderland thing at Hershey Park. They have plenty of hotels and motels in that area. Jackie, Mom to 13ds, 11, and Bradley

Guest guest
Strassburg has a beautiful railroad museum and a nice ride through amish country. The kids would love that. There is also a hotel very near by where all the room are train cars. I think the kids would get a major kick out of that too! : )

It really sounds cool, there's an indoor pool, with that pizza party thingy, and a Lobby bar! Wonder if we could get a group rate here???? Guest guest
How far is Hershey from Lancaster? Is there a hotel that you could recommend? Seems like a bar and indoor pool are requested from certain people...lol! I'm going to order the book for group planning tomorrow and see if we can get a discount rate. What can one really see on an Amish tour in the winter time? I think for us to celebrate MLK day together would be really neat, afterall, he fought for civil rights for all, including our kiddies! Guest guest
Hershey is about 30 minutes from Lancaster. I'm sorry to say, the winter wonderland, that is amazing, is only in November and December. Although the chocolate tours are year round. Also for those that like iceskating, Champions on Ice will be performing on Jan 22. I would still recommend staying in Lancaster and making Hershey a day trip, if you'd like. 2 Hotels were mentioned, Willow Valley and Hotel Brunswick. Both are nice hotels, but I wouldn't recommend either one because of their location. Hotel Brunswick is downtown, and truthfully, there's not alot to do downtown. Maybe because I live here!! Willow Valley again is a great Hotel, but not much around there. I would recommend Lancaster Host (www.lancasterhost.com) It has both the pool as well as a great nightclub. They also sometimes have comedy acts there. Centrally located in the heart of the " tourist " trap!! Close to The Amish Home and Barn, which is opened all year round!! It's also surrounded by shops and hotels. Turn left and it takes you to downtown Lancaster, turn right and it takes you to the heart of Amish Country. Towns such as Paradise, Intercourse, Gap, Blue Ball. And yes these are real names The only drawback is the 4 lanes of traffic out front but if you want to be close to everything, you really can't help it. The outlet stores are also right down the street. Really, any hotel on Lincoln Highway East will be where you'll probably want to be. Strasburg Railroad is great for the kids, but closed in January!! However for those little boys, the the Tank store will be open. www.ttstation.com. I have many other ideas for you all, but since it's already soo lengthy, I'll close here!!
