This is so bizarre. I was going to post tonight about amanda's math skills!

Well she is in 5th grade and has always struggled with math. She has been

working on a 2nd grade level for a while. well her teachers this year felt

that the one other person in her class was even below her in math and didnt

want to put them in a group. So they kept amanda with the class (I mean on

the grade level)!!!! well it went from like 2+2 to now she was adding 3

digit numbers with 3 and 4 addends!!!! She was also doing some estimation

(we used to call it rounding).

well I was extremely amazed and so proud of her. She was also looking up

words in a thesaurus really well and mostly on her own. Middle school, here

we come!!!!

Great news about Kristi. I guess it does just click sometimes!

<<were amazed to find out that our Kristi, who has Ds and is in the fourth

grade, is doing math at the fourth grade level. >>

I am continually amazed at the accomplishments of persons with Down

syndrome. There are certainly many that do a number of things that I can

not do. It reinforces that the same opportunities should be made to all

people, regardless.

That's great! Just curious.....what kinds of things are fourth grade level

math? I have such a hard time identifying exactly what that means. Did they

do some kind of standardized testing, or is she working along with the class

without the need for modifications?

I'm always so torn as to whether to have them test Jimmy or not. But I would

sure go for it if I'd get as good as news as you got!

Tims math skills are still very much preschool level (he's almost 8. But

his reading is age 6 and his spelling 6.1 (years) which for a child with an

overall ability level of about 4 years is pretty good.

Kristi's Amazing Math Skills

> We had IEP's/PT conferences for two of our four kids today and everything

went great. We were amazed to find out that our Kristi, who has Ds and is

without learning disabilities do not do math that well! We always find out

something new and positive at the IEP's. They are always a great experience

for us and today's news about Kristi was one of the best yet. Any other

kids out there who are good in math?

My son, who is in the fifth grade is pretty good at

math. This week they are learning to multiply a

three-digit number by a two-digit number. He can do

simple fractions and he divide by one number. Word

problems are his difficulty- which links to reading

comp.
