Hi ,

How about sticking it into a spoonfull of ice cream, that is something you

don't naturally try to bite into, just swallow.

hi

we tried concerta with alec. he caught on and refused to swallow after a

week. he found the pill in whatever i hid it in. in the past, i was able

to mush pills up in grape jelly.

we ended up changing to adderall. at first i had to mush it up in the jelly,

now i just hand it to him and he swallows the pill. i was thinking of trying

the concerta again, but he is doing well on the adderall...

On pills that can be crushed. You can get Wild Cherry Syrup, which is

used to make cough syrup, and it has enough flavor that it kind of masks the

medicing. At least you could get it some years ago, I haven't bought any

for a long time. A good pharmacist could order it for you, quite a large

bottle not too expensive. Of course, the med has to be water soluble. I've

used gallons of the stuff. Jessie

Sorry I don't have any advice on the pill swallowing. We have the opposite

problem. tries to eat everything without swallowing so pills were no

problem.

Since the subject of concerta and adderall came up I'm wondering if anyone

sees emotional outbursts or increase in behavior when the adderall is wearing

off during the day or evening?

HI :)

Sara's Carbatrol is supposed to be opened up and split. She takes half in the

morn and half at night. The pharmacist gave me grief over this at first until

he talked to Sara's Neuro and read his pharmacy book.... that said to do this

lol ooh and also it saves us money, one capsule (30) used twice a day instead

of 60 caps a month :)

Any ideas on how to teach him to swallow it instead of chew it. Any ideas

When gets congested, he will start to chew his carbotral (big

capsules). He just went off 500 mg of amoxicillin for sinus and now is on

another antibiotic (for weird skin stuff..dx unknown but possibly fungal).

I'd find a pharmacy that compounds medications and see if they can help you.

We have a compounding pharmacy that has a long list of flavors. We never

needed that though. I have on two occasions opened up the carbotral and

sprinkled it in yogart. It's also time released. I know it's a no no, but

I'd rather have it than not. I know the gel in the capsule

dissolves quickly.

I don't know how to convince him to swallow it, but be sure he doesn't tip his

head back, like you do when taking a pill. Whenever you take a capsule, tilt

your head forward because capsules float, and they will float to the back of

your throat. Maybe you could try to make a game of it like, " Take a drink, head

down, take a drink head back. " After a few times, give him the capsule and

continue the

game.

Just a thought, I still have to prick the nasty oily capsule and squirt it into

Noah's mouth, cause he still wants to chew it. I can't convince him he wouldn't

have to taste it if he would just swallow it whole!

What is the weird skin stuff that is going on? 's feet have been

terribly dry, red and peeling skin in between the toes. I've been doing

Aquaphor twice a day, and it doesn't seem to be getting better...I'm

wondering if it is fungal. Anyone else have this problem?

I took to the doctor due to a sinus infection. The night before

that, Snoop or Chiquita scratched him on his arm and on his belly. It looks

like a Chiquita scratch to me, but he told me it was Snoop. Anyway, the

next day (Tuesday) it was looking really infected. Redness spread to about

6 inches long and 4 inches wide. I thought the antibiotics would take care

of that. The redness didn't spread that much on his tummy/chest, but

definitely turned red. Friday was the worse day. I couldn't get him seen

until Tuesday and by then it started to look better. The doctor was

perplexed but noticed it was only on one side and that the redness on his

arm was parallel to the redness on his tummy/chest. The redness didn't

spread and it was only limited to those areas. She thinks he may have

gotten a fungal infection into the wound from the scratches. This makes

sense considering he was scratching the wound and could have had fungus

under his fingernails. She put him on a broad range antibiotic and rx a

fungal cream.
