Now put your request for a FBA in writing and mail it registered mail ASAP. Check with your state regs to see when they have to comply. Do most districts have their own behavior specialists? If so, I would consider the deck stacked against Maverick. Are we allowed to find and recommend one from the outside? And if so, WHERE would we find one? ** We are supposed to have Maverick's IEP on Friday. I asked the teacher and aide who they were getting to sub (that makes a difference whether or not Maverick goes to school that day). I was informed that they were told NOT to get subs because the meeting would only last 45 minutes and they would be done in time for the kids to arrive in class. I have NEVER had an IEP last shorter than 2 hours and that was when there were no ISSUES! This one will have MANY issues both behavoirly and academically that need to be addressed so it should last a LONG time. I put a call into the school pshychologist who is out of town til Tuesday, but at this point I see NO reason to arrange for babysitters for the babies and find someone to watch Maverick before school and either get him TO school or keep him at their home until we get done.....if it is only going to be for 45 minutes and have to be rescheduled. And on and on go the challenges!

When we got involved with one I put in the request someone that has experience with sensory issues, autism, moderate to severe cognitive disability and a whole list of other issues that I saw relevant. So that pretty much narrowed it down. My rationale to the school was that it was in their best interest to get someone that could do this right the first time rather than wasting their time and money.
