Guest guest
Chris My daughter, Nina, had and complete AVSD repair and had a valve reconstruction when she was 15 months old. It was the hardest that I have ever had to go thru, so far. I certainly understand how scared and nervous you and your wife probably are. Nina did extremely well and was off the ventilator before she came out of OR. She was out of ICU before 48 hours had passed and we were scheduled to come home on day 4, but she ran a low grade temp for about 3 days. We had to do several x-rays and echocardiograms in the days following surgery because she had a loose air pocket around one lung. Once that was all settled we came home and her life has been changed. She was only 11 pounds the day of the surgery and was always out of breath, although her sat levels remained at 98 most of the time. She was working herself literally to death. Since the surgery she has grown and changed in leaps and bounds. She just started walking before her 2nd birthday and life is great for her right now. We have only had one follow up visit and are scheduled for the next one in a couple of months. If you would like any specific information or just want to talk about it, feel free to email me privately. Good luck and God bless all of you. Guest guest
had a VSD repair when he was 11 months old. It was scary seeing my little one with all those tubes (and I was a nurse at the time). He is now 15 and healthy as a horse. He swims and plays basketball, and other sports. It will be frightening but he was so exhausted before the surgery. He would be up for 30 minutes and then sleep for four hours. If you want to discuss this in more detail, email me privately. Elaine Our Daughters surgery > Hi everyone no date has been set yet for Jeanna's heart surgery but has any > parents out there had their child go thru the following corrections made in > an open heart surgery Artierior Septal Defect and Ventricular Septal Defect > and Patent Ductus and Left Cleft Valve if so please response to this post or > Email us at Jeanna3598@.... She had her surgery at 11 1/2 months to. :-) At the same time there was a little girl there 3 yr's old from India, having a VSD repaired....I thought was always exhausted but this little girl couldn't even walk more then a few steps. the heart problem was her only problem and was fixed up fine. She was full of energy by day and slept all night. The reason the DR insisted on the surgery at 10 months was that she was not putting on any weight. He said her heart was burning up all of her calories. She was 10lbs at surgery date. Kathy mom to Sara 9..........nothing could slow this child down lol
