I havent said too much up until now, it has been very difficult looking

across the river and seeing the smoke and devastation....I cry, I fear, I

listen to the sky, and for that reason, the terrorists achieved their

objectives, I was terrified. But past that, the worst is all this talk of

war and long term hostilities and the hatred and mistrust of our neighbors

because of their countries of origin or religious beliefs. Fundamentalism in

any religion is wrong and is an aberration. Faith is such a good thing if

not bastardized. Faith brings hope, and understanding......and on that light

I remember a few things I studied in my foreign policy classes at college oh

so many years ago:

To stop war, you must get rid of an enemy's ability to make war. In this, it

does not mean maim and kill, it means seek out the weapons, seek out the

money. Why can't we find a way to cut off the flow of money for training of

hate and turn it around. Sieze the assets of Bin Ladin and use it to make

the poor of the world live better. IF there are people in this world that

are in such dire circumstances that they see no alternative but to strike

out, help them out of those circumstances. Lets help achieve peace by

making the world a better place to live for all. Ok, I know its hard and

idealistic and we'll probably never get rid of ancient hatreds and

prejudices. But if the world's children of today see a better future for

themselves, maybe they wont buy into the terrorist line and won't follow that

path.

Am I making any sense? Give Peace a Chance!

I agree. We really need to think critically about what's going on and Maya

Angelou said it best in a recent interview on one of the major stations... we

should not be bent on revenge, though it's tempting. We need to focus on

justice.

Every time the stock market goes into a sustained decline, we come up with

an excuse to go to war. If the recent terrorists attacks had not occurred,

we would have come up with some other excuse. If getting the stock market

back on an even keel requires human sacrifice, then I would like to suggest

we toss a few Daddy Warbucks into Mount Etna.

Over the past 50 years or so, our government has presented us with a variety

of demons to hate. Among these are: Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Mihn, Mu'ammar

al-Qadhafi, Noriega, Sadaam Hussein and Slobodan Milosevic. Only two

have been dealt with satisfactorily: Noriega nd Milosevic, both of whom were

hunted down and brought to trial.

Yesterday I wore a black arm band to Mass in mourning for those who lost

their lives in the recent terrorists attacks. I plan to wear it every time I

go out in public for anyone who loses his life as a result of these

terrorists attacks for as long as it takes.

A letter from our bishop was read at Mass in lieu of a homily. It called for

justice, not revenge. War is not justice. Hunting down criminals and

bringing them to trial is justice.

It bothers me a lot that the TV news is not interviewing those who have a

plan offering an alternative to war. I emailed ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox

expressing my displeasure at this lack of balanced coverage.

I am having a hard time with this. I know my husband or I could be called

back to active duty, and that's a challenge you accept when you enlist. I

enlisted and served during Desert storm. It was an honor. Dean put in

almost 18 years, and took a retirement. Otherwise, he would have gotten out

Jan 1, 2000. Or was it Dec 31, 1999? Who knows.

The point is that we HAVE given peace a chance, after bin Ladden attacked the

embassies, the USS COLE, which we both lost friends on, and all the last time

the world trade center was attacked. we have yet to really go after him,

giving peace a chance. We can't work with him, he moves too quickly to get a

strong hold on his financing, and so on. The only way to stop him is take

him out, and all of his supporters, that way there won't be one just as bad

waiting to step into his fanatical shoes. War isn't pretty, and we didn't

ask for it.

But we have to take a stand and do something, or he will keep going until we

are all speaking Arabic and practicing Muslim practices. You don't think

that will happen? Did you foresee the events of last week? Don't you think

that if he gets away with those, he will go for more, till it's too late to

stop him?

I probably don't have the popular opinion, but I say we flatten them from

the air and sea, then send in the ground troops to make sure no stone is

unturned and the freak is dead!!!!!

I think the trouble here is that we cannot find " them " in one particular

country. So what do we do? Obliterate many, many innocent people because

these idiots are " possibly " in their country? I think justice, in this case,

is going to be very, very difficult to administer. It would be so much

easier if these terrorist cells weren't scattered all over the world.

Maybe the US govt should have considered putting the millions of dollars they

are giving NYC to clean up this tragedy into beefing up intelligence and

thwarting these jerks from entering OUR country, OUR flight schools, and OUR

lives before something like this happened.

I feel so much anger about what has been done to us, but more so because I

feel frustrated that there is no possible way to easily punish those who are

responsible. These terrorists are everywhere, and we can't bomb everywhere.

I'd like to say Thank You to your family and all the other people serving our

country. I have friends/school mates who have served, one is maybe still on

When did we give peace a chance, Beth? We've been at war in Kosovo, Iraq and

Columbia for over a decade now.

Did you watch Nightline last night? During the program, they show a map of

the world indicating the nations in which terrorist groups have bases.

Afghanistan was one. So was Germany, all of North and East Africa, most of

the Middle East and all of SE Asia. It was a sobering sight. How will war

combat all that?

War will not solve this problem. War IS the problem.
