Hi,

I do not post often but always read all the other posts. I have some

very exciting news that I just had to share. We have a 20 year old son

with DS. His name is . He graduated from high school this past

spring. We were able to find a program in our area that helps people with

disabilities get jobs. They are teaching him to use the city buses too.

Over the last two weeks they have been taking him out into the community to

see what kind of job he would like. He did NOT want to do carts at Target

or wash dishes at a restaurant or several other things. He did show

interest in working at a theatre or grocery store stocking shelves.

Yesterday they took him to a Chili's restaurant to see what bussing tables

would be like. He liked that job. The person with HGA decided they might

as well get him an application while they were there. The person that gave

it to him said the manager was there and maybe he would interview him while

he was there. They hired him on the spot. Kia, the person working with

him, said that has never happened before. Everyone is so excited. He will

start Monday morning. They will provide a job coach as long as necessary.

They will also get him back and forth to the job until he is able to use

the buses independently. We are all very excited because we have gone

through some very difficult times with . We know all his problems

are not yet behind us, but things are definitely looking up. If for some

reason does not like this job or it doesn't work, their attitude is

" look around, how many people do you know that are still working at their

first job? " Please keep us in your prayers. We want this to work out

because is so excited. One thing did make us laugh. He didn't

know he job was called a bus boy. He came home and said he would be a

boss. He was a little confused between bus and boss. We will have to have

a few chats about this before Monday. Pat-mom to

Pat,

That is so exciting about !!! For those of us with school age

children, that gives us so much hope and inspiration! always says

that she wants to work in a restaurant because her Dad is a wanna be chef and

they are always making stuff together in the kitchen.

Also Chilis needs to be commended on their hiring of . It is great to

know that the world at large is starting to take notice and treat our kids

and all people with disabilities as productive memebers of society.

!!!!!!!!

Pat - This is so wonderful. I used to work for Brinker (corp. that owns Chili's

and many other restaurants). I am so happy that they hired your son. Where is

this Chili's located? I would love to pass this to the powers that be...

in Dallas
