Guest guest
That's what I thought too...Federal says I just found this: 300.536 reevaluation ( that a reevaluation of each child, in accordance with SS300.532-300.535, is conducted if conditions warrant a reevaluation, or if the child's parent or teacher requests a reevaluation, but at least once every three years. Starting in about 6 months, evaluations will only happed every other year for children in preschool. She said this already happens this way for school age kids. I was wondering which law was changed and at what level i.e.: federal, state, local etc. any input? Well, I say she be WRONG!! The federal law states an annual review (which means at LEAST once a year) That has not changed and if a state tried to do LESS than the federal law mandated, they would be in big doo doo!! Ask her to SHOW you the law that states this every other year thing. Cheryl in VA Di, mom to Jake(18,nda) and 4 (DS) Pennsylvania

Guest guest
Could the teacher be talking about the " new " wording that says that evaluation isn't required if the team agrees that existing information is adequate to determine eligibility? just found this in IDEA about reevals That's what I thought too...Federal says I just found this: 300.536 reevaluation ( that a reevaluation of each child, in accordance with SS300.532-300.535, is conducted if conditions warrant a reevaluation, or if the child's parent or teacher requests a reevaluation, but at least once every three years. Guest guest
I need to be in bed and read this posts in the morning before I respond! For some reason I was thinking of IEPs and annual reviews, not evaluations for eligibility. Eligibility still needs to occur every three years but the team that meets can forego obtaining new evaluations and use the old information if they agree. It can (and should) include academic testing as well as narrative information which comes from teachers, appropriate staff, and PARENTS.
