Guest guest
Hi Tim, I have heard there are only a few of these schools scattered across the nation. He is going to one that is in PA but I am not sure of the name of it. Do you know what one I mean. I think they can drive from Cleveland to there in a couple of hours so I'm guessing it is in the western part of PA. ?? I saw a Stossel show where he puts down the government and he showed the way the controllers pass the bars with the strips of paper on them and showed how Canada has it all computerized. How is it done now? Still the same? Gail <<Hello gboughton, That is great, is he going to the MARC school in Minnesota. We are so understaffed at this time and 75% of us who were hired post strike are eligible to retire in the next 7 years. Lots of changes are on the horizon for Air Travel within the USA. -- Best regards, Timbo>>

If 75% of ATC is eligible for retirement within the next 7 years and it takes years to be reach FPL status, especially at an enroute center, who will be controlling the airplanes, especially since the skies are getting busier and busier all the time? Scary thought. The FAA is counting on the controllers staying past their retirement date...I don't think so. Tim and I are now in a countdown and starting to explore where we will move to. Gail, I wish your son the best of luck...if you think ex hubby was stressed doing his job, I think your son will be 10X's more stressed. He could be a stress junky like Tim though. It does help when juggling things with kids though. Tim has enough seniority that he was able to get a straight day shift (with M & T off), but he recently switched with someone and now has to work Wednesday nights. There is also mandatory overtime once a week (we call it 's tuition day) and that is usually in the evenings. Mids are not like t hey use to be thanks to Fed Express and all the other overnight carriers (and ebay and online ordering, etc.)
