Guest guest
You're right on several points, . Using the brand name " Kleenex " is a bit thoughtless, but not the end of the world. A lot of people say " Deep Freeze " when they mean " freezer " for example. Silly, but there it is. Here on my Island, the school supply lists are given to the stores that sell school supplies and the parents receive no lists. I often received blanket notes from teachers and schools that did not apply to my children, but I didn't use them as an excuse to get angry. I know in this society that Kleenex has become to mean tissue, but that does not make it the correct term. I just feel a teacher should try to be more correct than the rest of us...they are after all, teaching. Gail

Guest guest
Actually, there comes a time when brand names are accepted into the lexicon. It is perfectly acceptable to say Kleenex, just as we all say Jello and Scotch tape, to name a few. Guest guest
I just don't think we need to be ridiculing a teacher for saying Kleenex. I'm sure there are even doctors out there that say Kleenex for tissue! It has nothing to do with " being educated " . I certainly hope when I become a teacher that I am not held up to such scrutiny as this. I do think what this teacher sent Gail is inappropriate but let's leave the Kleenex wording alone. Guest guest
Our remote is duct taped together too!!! My husband loves that stuff. About 2 years ago my father-in-law gave my son $100 and a box full of duct tape for his 9th birthday and told him it was the only two things he'll ever need in life: money and duct tape. appreciated the money!!! Jackie, Mom to 13ds>> Hi Jackie, I don't believe that I am ridiculing this teacher for this. I wouldn't even bring it up to her. In January I asked that Ted be moved to this school which 5th & 6th graders attend. This was to get him away from the " unit " that was in his elementary school. At the time I did not know that the elementary school in my neighborhood was where all kids from 6 other elementary schools were brought to. I just thought that the 13 children with whatever disability or special needs happened to live in my neighbor- hood. At the time the 5th & 6th grade school did not have a MH unit but a LD unit. The SD told me that it was totally inappropriate that Ted go there. That 5th grade was VERY different than 4th and it was an emphatic NO that I heard. NOW....they decide to move the " unit " and all of a sudden it is appropriate. In a discussion I had with this teacher that sent me this survival kit and class supply list, she said when I asked her why they were moving the unit, (the unit is also being split up and they are moving the younger kids to another elementary school and the older ones (like Ted) to the 5th & 6th grade school) and I quote! " It is time that we share this population with another school! " Now THIS I will ridicule her for! WHAT is Ted??? Part of a traveling circus??? This Kleenex thing has gotten WAAAY out of hand because it was just an aside comment and I am not wasting my time getting angry about it or ridiculing anyone about it. It is just my opinion! I have way many more comments with this district to get angry about. And that pertains mostly to how they treat Ted and the backlash that I feel because I don't blindly go along with their " program " Gail
