Some kids with DS can have a dual diagnosis of DS (which can include MR) and

autism, just as some kids with autism can have a dual diagnosis of MR and

autism. But that is not true of all. Also, autism has many different levels

of functioning.

Your neighbor is misinformed. There are people with DS who also are

autistic, but that's as far as it goes. Ask her to provide you with

literature on DS being a form of autism. Bet she can't produce it.
