Jody, all I can tell you is my kids and myself loved ours!! Stefanie was a

jumping bean and spent hours on the tramp! She is 18 and we are just now

getting ready to give it away, she is reluctantly letting us do so! ;-)

Also, prepare yourself to be a jumper too, kids love to watch parents make

fools of themselves! DON'T try to do any flips though! And go to the

bathroom first, my son's best friend's mom got on the trampoline, jumped and

then peed her pants!! ;-)

We had a trampoline for 6 yrs. (Until the goat ate the loops that hooked to

the springs.) We never had an injury....I had very strict rules. It was

great for socialization and also a great CALMING tool for both Mav (ds) and

his older brother who had ADHD. It was great for behavior rewards. I

would have Mav go jump for 15 min before we were going somewhere that he had

to be quiet for.

And yes, DO make sure they use the bathroom first!

However, there were 2 4 yr olds who just recently died on the trampoline in

our town so I am just as glad that the goat destroyed ours and don't plan on

replacing it any time soon.

HI Jody :)

A friend of ours down the street has a trampoline. Their child has CP and

their therapists recommended it for her. Sara loves it but she is very

careful, Sara doesn't like to lose control, so she jumps just little jumps

lol now if my Mom knew we were on this trampoline she would freak. She was

the head nurse in the ER for years and saw many tragic accidents from this

toy.....including me lol in HS I was on one and was trying to do two flips, I

landed on my neck..inches away from being paralyzed :( sooooo now I too take

little jumps.

Really most outdoor toys hold some risk, we have a pool and some pretty

strict rules but as you said it's a great incentive for Sara and her

neighborhood friends :)

Soon you will have yard full of kids YIPPEE huh lolol

We have one.. since Jaykob is only 15 months its more for his NDS sibs.. They

love it.. We do not let any of the neibor kids on it without their parents

signing a waver knowing what could happen and that we are not reasponisable

for any damage done to their kids... Jaykob loves to crawl around on it, and

if you whole him up in will jump...

His PT and ped both said that its ok for him to be on it, but not when the

kids or daddy go crazy..

used a trampoline at school for awhile. Some parent loaned it

to them. The teacher had me come in one day to show me how did with

it and I was amazed. He flipped himself up on to it and jumped a bit and

then flipped off. I could hardly believe it. I think it was great for him.

I have asked him since if it didn't hurt and he said, Oh Yes!!!. We didn't

realize he was having pain at that time from his hips. I guess he thought

those things hurt everybody so he didn't say anything. I felt like it was

good for him, but it wasn't like having one at home. Jessie

My daughter got one last year for her birthday. She plays on it everyday.

It's the one thing that ALL the kids like, no matter what age. She doesn't

do flips or anything on it. Ours has an enclosure. I wouldn't have one

otherwise.

It has helped her balance and muscle tone in her legs.

If the neck xrays are ok, I don't see why it would be any different than

any other kid. Yes, they're dangerous, but so are pools, bikes without

helmets, and lots of other things.

We were considering a trampoline too, with the enclosure. My husband

thought

that the enclosure could pose more of a problem, with kids trying to jump

into it,

climb, etc. Any thoughts from those with trampolines? I am actually most

worried

about my almost 2, NDA daughter who is a devilish little monkey and can

circumvent

almost all " babyproofing " security already!

Mom to (5.5), (3.5 DS), and (almost 2 and acting

like it!)

As young as your kids are, you'd probably be right there to correct them

anyway, so maybe it would be alright. Caty was 10 before we got hers. I

sort of wish we had bought it when she was 7 or 8. Caty hasn't even tried

to climb it, but she usually learns things like that from NDA kids and I

just make sure I'm right there when neighborhood kids are around. I've

caught little boys jumping up against it, I just think it's a boy thing. I

don't think it would ever break it's just hard on the enclosure. We

wouldn't have the trampoline without the enclosure....there's no way I

could " spot " by myself. I can tell you the enclosure has saved several of

the kids that got too close to the edge when jumping. I don't mean they

were monkeying around....it's just that if you jump near the edge....it

doesn't have as much give as the middle and it throws you.

We are awaiting the results of his 12 yr. neck xrays now

> and of course his Dr. says they aren't safe for anybody.

Jody,

We also have a trampoline. It was wonderful for 's gross motor

development. There will be cautions posted on the trampoline (required by

law)..make sure the kids comply to them. I had one rule that I strictly

enforced...no one was allowed on it unless Tim or I were home.

Is it safe for everyone? Well, my dh broke his back in three places when he

attempted a flip. He was out of work for a long time..used up all his sick

leave and financially, it hit us hard. It took us a few years to recover.

He's lucky he didn't break his neck.

Is most of the danger with trampolines from falling off? And therefore,

does the enclosure siginificantly decrease the number of accidents?
