Guest guest
From NOEWAIT:  The following posts recently raised questions about the difference between people with a developmental disability on waiting lists and people in the services system who are underserved. This difference is pretty clear to those of us on waiting lists I offer the following to help clarify this matter.   You might be on the waiting list, if a bus goes by your house to pick up a neighbor, just like your child and take them to a day program, while your child is home alone, and you believe no one give a rats behind about your child.   You might be on the waiting list, if a behavior therapist passes by your house to attend to a neighbor just like your child, and you believe no one give a rats behind about your child .  You might be on the waiting list, if the respite worker passes your house and provides services for a family just like yours, and you believe no one give a rats behind about your family.  You might be on the waiting list, if you do not know the name of your supports coordinator and you think they do not give a rats behind about your family.  You might be on the waiting list, if your requests for help to eliminating the waiting lists to the national state and local ARCs are ignored.  You might be on the waiting list, if you are paying for day program for your child while families with much more money than you will ever have, get this service for free.  You might be on a waiting list, if you yawn when you hear about families who are receiving services complain about the limited number of service hours they are receiving.  You might be on the waiting list, if you have no representation on the State DD Council, on the boards of the protection and advocacy system, ARC's and UCP's and not like to get any representation on these bodies.  You might be on the waiting list, if you only have NOEWAIT and Left Behind in Florida speaking out for your interests.  You might be on the waiting list, if you are indignant when you don't see the waitlist mentioned on convention's agendas. You might feel like they don't give a rat's behind about you or your family when they do not courtesy to mention this issue on their agenda.    Please add more so we can better define the people on the waiting lists.  Mike Coonan Left Behind in Florida     I have updated Louisiana's information.
