Using the metaphor of a ʻStar Raftʼ (a pattern used by sailors to anchor in community), participants will learn how to: ★ Identify, invite and mobilize a rich array of people, places and resources that are just a step or two away when we tap into our own personal networks ★ ʻFollow the threadsʼ of individual interests, gifts and capacities in the direction of companionship, connection and contribution ★ Keep support circles on track and sustain involvement in turbulent times ★ Teach network members how to mobilize their own connections ★ Teach members how they can leave without breaking the circle ★ Work within existing trust networks and use patterns that maintain safety ★ Work in ways that donʼt depend upon formal system resources and that can survive system turbulence ★ Multiply the effort by supporting experienced members to start new networks ★ Apply the pattern in wider contexts, including justice, child protection, foster care, care for aging parents, injured worker and veteransʼ rehabilitation The workshop is practice-based and action-oriented. Participants will work in teams, practicing the tools and patterns they will ultimately use in the field. The tools can be used in conversation and on paper, but they are also supported by powerful social networking websites and mind-mapping software to explore, develop and strengthen individual networks. The workshop will provide access to the basic software tools and a ʻtemplateʼ for mapping relationship networks. Following the workshop, each participant will be encouraged to start a network for someone who is important in their lives. Everyone who starts or joins an active network will be invited to join a web-based community for ongoing support. Presenter Wetherow brings thirty years of experience in designing individual and family supports, developing Microboards, conducting valuesbased training and teaching person-centered planning We look forward to seeing you in the Star Raft Webinar with Wetherow on May 4 at 7 pm CST.
