Guest guest
Hi, Can someone please help in defining the components of an effective vocational evaluation? Our son is 20 years old and is being evaluated by an agency in DuPage County. The cost is being covered by the State's Department of Rehab Services. We had our first meeting with the evaluator and I was disappointed in the initial approach. After a short interview and completion of the necessary paperwork, the evaluator went through a set of books with our son. He showed him pictures of jobs (some of which were extremely outdated, such as a switchboard operator) and then asked him if he would want to do this. Of course being the agreeable person he is, my son said yes to practically everything. I do not believe that he even understood what some/most of these jobs involved. The agency is also going to set up observation at a few sites, including their in-house workshop, his current job assignment and a restaurant (which he is very interested in). Are there other components that would be helpful? I just want to be sure that we are using this opportunity to its fullest, not wasting our time and the state's money. Any suggestions as to what we should be asking for as part of this evaluation would be greatly appreciated.
