In addition to this, some severely mercury toxic individuals do not sweat appropriately (or sometimes at all). There is a paper in the literature where someone got guys who worked in a mercury factory to dress up in rubber boots and coats while doing heavy labor on a hot day, collected the sweat, and measured the mercury in that compared to in their urine. It turns out that 1.75 quarts of sweat (plus or minus a lot) is equal in mercury content to the day's urinary mercury excretion. Sauna has been used to detox mercury miners since time immemorial - when they get too messed up, they go to the sauna during work hours instead of into the mineshaft. Guest guest
From what I've read and heard (no expert here), the sauna tends to help the body release toxins that are bound in the fat cells so you're trying to sweat but apparantly it does a little bit more than just sweating. Though my doc said in his most mercury toxic stage, he was too poor to afford a sauna so he'd sit in his car in the summer heat for awhile -- called it the poor man's sauna but he also said he'd not recommend this for kids . Guest guest
Now this is interesting. Since we got back from our vacation in Florida, my husband has had less trouble with his digestion and fewer muscle cramps and spasms. I attributed this improvement to all the exercise we got walking around Disney World, but maybe it was all the sweating (Central Florida in July is HOT, let me tell you). > From what I've read and heard (no expert here), the sauna tends to help the > body release toxins that are bound in the fat cells so you're trying to sweat > but apparantly it does a little bit more than just sweating. We chase her out and lock the cars. As soon as she get the opportunity she is back in the car. Jen has continually making improvement??? We have always be afraid her have problems from the heat. Guest guest
Since my son and daughter are on a lot of supplements and doing the chelating (yes, my own style, don't hit me) I have ventured into a lot of ways to go about this. I do not propose this works for everyone, I have just seen wonderful things with it, especially in light of a son with a suspected mit disorder and seizures. I am doing the ALA every four hours, then overnight doing the time release. On for a week, off for another, on for one week, off for another. They have a tincture of cilantro drops with alcohol and also have chlorella (from www.shokos.com ). I have seen MARKED improvement in my kids these past two weeks! They are only in a sauna for five minutes a day, believe me, that was hard enough to do. They are doing CoQ10, Vitamin C, E and K, along with SNT p5p, TMG w/folic acid, monolaurin, magnesium malate, ambrotose, immunocal (only 2Xa week), SAMe, ButryEn (allergy research group-helps fatty acid conversions), CLO cis, JoMAR labs glutathione blends of glycine, l-glutamic acid and L-cystein, AT LEAST 10 glasses of water a day (small cup), Acidohphilus, Yeast Avenger, Betain HCL, Digestive Enzymes(Spectrazyme), Sprout Defense, cAMP Forskolin (to make secretin better)-gaia herbs, milk thistle, brewers yeast (only one day a week-experimenting at the moment), pregnelelone, olive oil with cilantro oil (this was needed for my sons fatty acid imbalances according to his charts) , olive leaf extract, flax seed oil, LOTS AND LOTS OF RED MEAT...reason.....red meat has a lot of stores of ALA in it! (all organic as much as possible). Almost a PALEO DIET. High fats, no dairy, no gluten, barely any carbs. And last but not least epsom salt baths, with an addition of a creme made up by a compound pharmacist for available sulphar and magnesium. Guest guest
Jenn Monlaurin is spoken of by Bradstreet too. It got me thinking and searching. IT is a fatty acid, made from cocunut oil. Seems that this is a buzz word in the AIDS population as well. Monolaurin works very interestingly on enveloping viruses such as HIV and also MEASLES. They slip them off of walls they are attatched to so I hear, that intrigued me, since that seems to be the case in our kids? Enveloping viruses I heard also have the ability to hide from the immune system, so that also intrigued me. It also has an ability to enhance the immune system response to these viruses (t-cells and lymphocytes). My sons lauric acid level was really low on his fatty acid test, so I figured, why not give it a shot. A friend of mine also has her son on it, and recorded basal temps everymorning, previously they were elevated above norms, and now on the monolaurin are at norms. She also measured HHV6 before and after being on monolaurin, the HHV6 levels also came down. I suspect that HHV6 also had a lot to do with my sons seizure activity and her sons becuase they were up with the increase of seizures in them both. Heard something about how HHV6 does to blood flow, it made sense in terms of blood flow in the brain? The sulphar creme is a like giving the epsom salt baths for our kids, in a cream formulation. My friends child's family was going on vacation (camping) and they knew they would and could not survive without it ( he would go into terrible bouts of neuropathy even), so they had a compoundist make up the creme. I posted that to the list a couple of days ago, if you want to call him and ask some questions. I think giving my kids available sulphar and also magnesium has helped them tremendously. Guest guest
>Is there a big diffrence between a infared Sauna and a regular sauna? >Cedar is not as good as polar wood in the sauna? I have heard that the infrared units from Healthmate are made with some plywood which would offgass chemicals while using. The traditional saunas from Heavenly Heat are made for the chemically sensitive population. They are made using white poplar wood which is supposed to be a wood that offgasses the least. I am sure that the heat feels different as the infrared rays penetrate deeper and have the effect of heating from the inside out. I have read that some people like the infrared units for this reason while others prefer the traditional sauna heat. Dave
Guest guest
Sorry for the belated answer to this one as well. We're just finishing our fourth week of a sauna program with good results so far. This is obviously making a big dent in our toxic load as we've gone through cycles of obviously loosening up things and releasing them and then feeling great. We're doing 20 minutes of aerobic activity followed by 20 minutes of sauna at 150 degrees. After cooling down, replacing water and electrolytes with E-lyte electrolyte formula plus some Vitamin C, we shower. We have a SMAC-3 blood test run every 3-4 weeks while doing regular saunas. After the first week, I upped my time in the sauna to 30 minutes but after a few days of this it was too much for my system so I dropped back to 20 min. I plan to stay with that time until the end of the year and then if it looks like we need to continue detoxing and our blood tests show normal, we'll do two, 20 min segments a day. During this, my son is doing 3 days of chelation a week with DMSA. We started with the every 4 hour dosing, then did every 6 hours and now have dropped back to three times a day (upon waking, in afternoon and bedtime). He seems to be doing about the same no matter what the dosing timing is but we were both crankier with the night waking way of doing it. I plan to do some urine and perhaps stool testing next week to see what is coming out. As for the sauna itself, it works really well and looks like a big tent so my son loves being in it, thinking he's playing " tent. " Even though I thought it would add greatly to our electric bill, I haven't noticed an increase. Gaylen
Guest guest
Dear Rogene, I felt funny after I got out of the sauna today, I could hear the blood running in my ears (odd I know ) I didnt feel unwell just another hard to explain thing ! I did not go in it yesterday and only had 25mins in it today so I dont think I am overdoing it. Can you get worse before you get better? it seems that when I go shopping to the supermarket, I can smell the plastic/packaging everything in the store as`soon as I walk in, I have had problems with sensitivity to smells for years but this is something new. I am not sweating that much, my hubby went in after me and his towel was`soaking, I have been sweating but nothing like that.Do you think I should sweat that much? Sorry for all the questions Thanks Rogene Sue.
Guest guest
Dear Sue, You may feel a lot of new sensations as you detox . . .. They are nothing to be scared of . . . Just know that what you are doing is working. . . I would be far more concerned if nothing happens! Your body is responding, and that's good. My only concern is that you continue to feel safe while using your sauna. . . Stay in only as long as you feel comfortable . . . and stay in as long as you feel comfortable. You may, or may not sweat, a great deal at some point in time. Persistance will do the job, even if you don't sweat profusely.. Just be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day so anything being stirred up can be flushed quickly. The way I visualise what's going on with me is that, with the sauna light and heat, my circulatory system starts pumping faster and more thoroughly . . . Things get stirred up that have been resting somewhere in my tissues. The stuff may come out my pores, or it may be dumped via urine or feces . . . Doesn't matter . . . The goal is to get rid of all the unhealthy stuff in our body that I can. I'll bet that, after you're thoroughly detoxed, you won't be very sensitive to chemicals any more. . . I'm not! It takes a really big exposure to get my attention now. I used to have an extremely keen nose for chemicals I reacted to . . . Now, I hardly notice the smell . . . However my nose does start running sometimes! - another way my body tries to get rid of stuff it doesn't like! Our bodies are so smart, if we'd just pay attention to their signals they will let us know what we need! How did your hubby feel after the sauna? Are you still feeling more energetic? How about your son? I'm so glad you were able to get a sauna and start detoxing with it. . . It will still take time, but you should start feeling better and better and better . . .. If you're like most of us, one day you'll look back and be amazed that you were functioning at all when you felt so horrible! Love, Rogene >
Guest guest
Lea, I forgot to say that far infrared saunas are a lot easier to breathe in too . . . the air temperature is much cooler. I would think that, with your respiratory problems, that a dry or steam sauna would be hard to do. I'm anxious to hear about your tests too! . . . I hope you're seeing some improvement! Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
Dear Rogene, Thank you for that it was what I needed. I have carried on with the sauna and am sweating a little more at a lower heat. I have come ou tin loads of spots on my legs, groin area and face, I look on this as a positive though.I have had an abcess under my arm for ages its started to get smaller and is not so inflamed. My hubby loves the sauna he goes in everyday and sweats loads. I have not had a sleep\ in the afternoon since getting the sauna, the only day I was tired is when I never used it, so that in itself is a big improvement. My boys have only been in a couple of times I want to be very careful with them, but they really enjoy it. I have had some problems though, as I have been feeling giddy, not that this is unusual for me giddyness is a big problem for me, but I just try to listen to what you said and say to myself, things will be bad for a while as I am stirring things up. Hubby and my daughter have said the black is going from under my eyes, I can still see it but they have said its improved. Just thought I would tell you my youngest keeps eating raw garlic, he loves it, maybe his body is telling him something !!!. Take care Sue. Guest guest
Sue, That's great that the sauna is helping you so much! I think it ranks up there with juices and garlic. It seems that it is one therapy that helps most who try it. I read that it is fine for kids also as long as they don't stay in for more than thirty minutes. love, Anita Re: Sauna Dear Rogene, Thank you for that it was what I needed I have carried on with the sauna and am sweating a little more at a lower heat.
