Guest guest
Hi Liz, I kept your email and today when I was helping at the nurse's office at Glenkirk I showed your email to the Dir of Nurses. She had this suggestion for the Braille. To make a card that could be attached to the medication card -- now I am guessing that the agency where your son lives uses the card that has a months supply of meds that you punch out. For example if he has 4 cards for different medications make a Braille card to attach to each medication card that could possibly be done using a rubber band. By having the individual card of Braille you are not changing the original medication card, thus not relabeling. The information in Braille is an " instruction " card. Our son's med cards come with the morning, evening and bedtime label in different colors. I don't know if your son's vision would be able to see the small label of color. Good Luck. (he can't do the med program the way he's supposed to if his cards aren't accessible to him. > > Now I'm told that the braille can't be put on the cards; that the pharmacy would have to do it.....(the very reason I started brailling because the pharmacy WASN'T doing it. > > I was told that it's considered relabeling if we do it. > > I was also told that they can't color code the cards & put the times on the cards as to when the meds are given. A couple of the staff says it helps them, it helps the residents who can't read & I know it's helped me. > > So. does anybody know if this is illegal to do any of the above? It's been years since I've given meds like this & I know the rules change. (I do believe the home has been doing the color coding for quite a while.) > > Thanks, > > Liz > > As for my son's snacks....I'm now dating them before I put them in the snack box AND he had his bed sheet changed this week!!! >
