Guest guest
Kathy and all  AGREED! Thank God Obama care appears to be dead -- now maybe we can get serious about meeting the healthcare needs of folks!  IL moving toward managed care for Medicaid scares me as it is tough enough to find the specialty drs needed who will take Medicaid.  Charlotte, I have been told by folks in the benefits biz that an easy translation is... Medicaid Managed Care is best thought of as Medicaid now moving to an HMO model.     HMO's generally most simply are managed care vehicles.  Choice may well be the BIG issue of the future especially fo DD clients...  Folks, we need to be part of the conversation NOW on this matter, too, with our state legislators.  Being the parent of an adult with disabilities seems at times like being a full time lobbist!  But if not us, who? If not when, NOW! YES, we can!  Hope to see many more of you tomorrow at 10 AM to meet with Bill Messenger.  G   Humbly grateful to be your companion on the journey... Gordon P. I truly believe this universal health care will bankrupt the country and I am glad the train has been derailed. I think the forefathers have been turning over in their graves with the goings on in the country over the twisted political system we have become. The government health care issue proposed was not the answer for our young adults with disabilities and we need to keep our eyes and ears open and not be used by the political system. Kathy > > Well, now that health care reform is sadly dead and we'll continue to be the only " major " country that does NOT have universal health care, I think it's far past time for people to rise up against the truly dysfunctional US Senate! I don't really care if you're Democrat, Republican, Independent or non-voter. I don't really care if you call yourself a liberal, conservative, moderate or kangaroo. The current procedure in our US Senate works to the serious detriment of us all! Let's be honest, do we really think that about 10% of the population (our 10 smallest states) plus one senator can rule over the 90% of the rest of us? Do we really think that one or two senators need to be bribed in order to get legislation through. This is absurd and certaily not what those good ol' guys in Philadelphia had in mind nearly 250 years ago. > Remember, I'm NOT asking about anything that even smacks of a Constitutional change, but rather, a simple change in how the senate does business! > What can us " common folk " do? Not much, I'm afraid. But I'll write Durbin and Burris' replacement and urge that the Senate " grow up " and act in a manner consistent with what a MAJORITY of people want (hell, even if it's NOT what I want). > BTW, if you somehow think that now the congress will now write truly meaningful health care legislation, I have some swamp land here in Illinois that I'll gladly sell you. Given the fact that the primary objective of one party is to make the other party fail, this just isn't going to happen. > Thanks for letting me vent. > Ron > Ron >

Guest guest
I totally agree with Gordon and Kathy. I think an easier approach would be to allow those not covered by a group plan to have the option to purchase their insurance through either the State' employees or federalemployees Health Insurance programs. This would eliminate the problem with preexistings and give the group discount. I also think health insurance companies should do a complete overhaul on what is covered. I mean seriously, has anyone seen the commercials with Shields with the prescription to have longer eyelashes? Is this something that should be covered by health insurance?
