Guest guest
Hi Laurie: Needless to say, like most communities, our hasn't got a clue. I have heard nothing about Disability Employment Month... If I have the time next week, I will phone our Village President and ask and report back. Noah has part-time paid and volunteer jobs...his favorite is delivering meals for Meals on Wheels...he does that three times a week in two different programs. He also works in a small coffee shop in a park district recreation building for minimum wage, he cleans an office with a few other guys for minimum wage and he cleans in our local synagogue as a volunteer job. Even with all of those jobs, he probably works only about 10-11 hours a week...I am constantly brain storming possibilities...Noah loves taking labels off things (it can be a bit of a problem when we are shopping...) so, my latest thought is to find a company that resells items...they may need someone who can remove old labels...if anyone knows of such a business...by all means, let me know! Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... October Question of the Month: Jobs Did you know that October is National Disability Employment Month? And that this year, the theme is Expectation + Opportunity = Full Participation in the Community? Please post any information you may have about these topics throughout the month, and we'll all learn from one another. 1. How is your community recognizing Disability Employment Month? 2. If your son/daughter has a job, tell us their story of how they found the job, accomodations made, supports that help make it successful, etc. Your story may just inspire another parent somewhere else in the state. 3. If your son/daughter is unemployed, tell us that story too. Perhaps we can help problemsolve or at the very least, commiserate! We'll post employment-related resources and news bits here throughout the month of October. Laurie

Guest guest
I'll upload some materials on Natl Disability Month, perhaps you could share them with your Village Manager's office. Also, on Noah and the peeling labels off of things comment, do you know any painters/wallpaperer's who might consider an apprentice or helper to REMOVE old wallpaper? That's a peeling nightmare for anyone who's done it. Noah would be the only person on earth who enjoys removing old wallpaper or wallpaper borders. L. Guest guest
Laurie...the wallpaper removal idea is really interesting...I keep thinking that the unintended consequence might be that he will peel wallpaper everywhere we go...fortunately we do not have any rooms wallpapered! I will let you know if we pursue this. Thanks about sending some info about National Disability Month. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
