Guest guest
Just going overthis one more time..again, a new worm crawls out of the can! Our son works, earns less than $300 a month. Also SSI and SSDI. He has a checking account. Are you suggesting we have two separate accounts, one for the SSA money, rep payee and the other account for the work and gifts etc ? Guest guest
I suggest to my clients that they open two accounts: 1) payee account 2) joint for working money This way, when the payee report comes, you will have a better handle on the SSI money. If you get audited, they want to see how the SSI money has been spent and it is now segregeted. ________________________________ From: N Rubin <brian@...> " IPADDUnite " <IPADDUnite > Sent: Fri, December 25, 2009 7:53:05 AM Subject: Re: Question about guardianship, social security  Yes - two accounts. Guest guest
We have one account that we use for SSI and Noah signs over his paychecks (they are VERY small) to me. I cash them and return the money to him for his weekly spending money. The amount of money is so small...often under $100/month, that it didn't make sense to me to deposit those checks. Am I making a mistake doing it this way? Thanks. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... Guest guest
I do maintain two accounts in Steph's name(with mine also). One for social security only, so that it is easy to account for. I use this for her board and food and clothing, necessities of life(needs). the other is for her personal expenses(we call them wants). We put her earnings in and she has a debit card. Guest guest
I opened up a joint acct for when he was about 17. The only money that goes into his acct is his SSI. I don't put any of my money in it. (He gets $30 a month of SSI) I end up buying him things he needs, but it comes out of our (his dad's & my acct) When I became his rep payee, they told me that using that same acct was okay. I just had to sign a paper. So now his bank statements say Rep. payee & that's how I sign any checks I write for him. He gets paid every two weeks (if he has work. Most of his checks are less than 10. I let him use his work money as mad money....(video games, snacks) Liz

Guest guest
Can someone explain why SSDI and SSI are so different. Also, after your child reaches 18 and can not hold a full time job, why are they not able to get SSDI? Is it because you have to have income quarters to get SSDI? Guest guest
SSI is welfare paid from income tax. SSDI is for those who have worked sufficient quarters and is paid from FICA. The younger you are the less quarters you need. If your SSDI equates to less than SSI, and you have less than $2,000, you can receive some SSI in addition to the SSDI to bring you to the SSI amount. Guest guest
Angel has a checking and her old savings account. I use QuickBooks to keep track of all her income and expenses, so her SSI and employment checks get deposited in the checking account.
