There are two very separate issues here.

1. The absolute need to make sure that each and every resident of Howe is

transitioned safely with all necessary supports in place.

2. There is very strong and organized effort to convince Governor Quinn to

reverse his decision and keep Howe open.

Today, the Committee to Save Howe Developmental Center circulated a press

release stating they had 5000 signatures on a petition and the support of a long

list of IL lawmakers, including a US Representative, , Jr. and

received wide media coverage including a story on ABC 7’s 6:00 evening news.

People are not discussing the need for appropriate community supports. They are

discussing Representative , Jr. and AFSCME and keeping Howe open.

Aside from your suggestion that anyone who knows those folks listed in your

earlier email, contact them to share their views about the SODCs and community,

what other strategies can you recommend, Pam?

I agree that this is a call to action for all those who believe in community

living for all...
