Supporting Literacy at Home

7 Happ Road – Northfield, Illinois

Literacy is not just about reading the words in books. Literacy defined broadly

includes how we communicate and share information with others as well as how we

take in information from the world around us. This definition highlights the

close relationship that literacy has with expressive and receptive communication

and how important it is as a life skill.

This workshop will provide parents with information on how literacy develops and

will provide practical strategies and ideas for supporting literacy and

communication at home and on the go for students at all levels of literacy

development.

Space is limited. To ensure a seat, please RSVP to mades@... with your

name,

telephone number and school district by September 18, 2009.

*Directions to New Trier Northfield Campus

From North: I-94 (IL 41) to Tower Rd. exit; go south on Frontage Rd. which

turns into Happ Rd. until you reach Northfield Campus (just south of Winnetka

Ave.). Park on west side of Happ.

From West: I-294 (Tri-State Tollway); exit east on Willow Rd. to Happ Rd.

South on Happ to Northfield Campus. Park on west side of Happ.

Park in lot on WEST side of Happ Road ONLY. All other areas will be towed.

Continuing Education Hours: 2 Continuing

Professional Development Units: 2
