They said if AFSCME doesn't get enough cards signed we will not have a choice if a Union is voted for. They said SEIU already had their 30% and filed a few days ago. They said SEIU wants to give all the funding to Home Based Services and nothing else. I got the guys name and number if anyone wants to talk to him. I told him that I wanted to investigate more and decide if I want a union or not. He talked my ear off. He gave me 2 articles one from the Wall Street journal Jan. 7th Service Union Chief Met with Blagojevich. It says The federal complaint alleges that one of Mr. Blagojevich' s plans was to appoint a labor-friendly candidate to the vacated Ill Senate seat in exchange for a $300,000 a year position at an SEIU-affiliated labor federation called Change to win. It said SEIU was the governors biggest campaign contributor $1.8 million for his 2 campaigns for Gov. Etc Etc. My head is spinning. I know I should not have opened the door. Guest guest
Hi - Those are good questions, . These kinds of questions answered before a contract is negotiated would only be speculation. The union will " ask their people " what they want in the contract. If " the people " say they want training to increase the pool of qualified applicant, and the union officials agree, it will go into the contract to be negotiated. Guest guest
I agree. In fact I belong to a union and have for over 35 years. There are good and bad things about unions. As a mother and PSW I have no need for a union and do not want to pay union dues. How sad would it be if we had to belong to the union and they started telling parents you are not qualified for the job, or you have to be trained to do your job. LOL sorry! Guest guest
Ellen, no problem at all. Glad I could add something. I hope it gets in the paper. Shirley From: ELLEN BRONFELD < egskbsbcglobal (DOT) net > Subject: Re: AFSCME at my door IPADDUnite@gro ups.com Date: Monday, August 24, 2009, 11:17 PM Thanks...now we all have to spread the word within our networks, neighborhoods, etc... Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskbsbcglobal (DOT) net AFSCME at my door So today 2 people from AFSCME came knocking on my door and did not want to leave until I signed their card. They said Gov. Quinn's office gave them our information because SEIU made a back door agreement with Blagojevich months ago. I told him I would get back to him. He wanted to follow up with me and wanted my number but I said no. He said we will not have a choice if people vote for a union it will be SEIU and that it looks like we will be stuck with a union. Has anyone got to the bottom of all this? Is this true? At least he told me where they got all their info. Shirley
