In this time of massive state program cuts private organizations need your help more than ever. Pick a fundraiser or two to attend to help out ASI or the Northeast IL Chapter! And ASA's national conference in our backyard is a once in a generation opportunity....I highly recommend attending! And although a budget has been passed, please remember that there is never a bad time to contact your legislators and tell them how they need to improve supports to the autism community! July 22-25 Pheasant Run - St. , IL 2009 Autism Society National Conference see autism-society.org for full schedule And I am pretty sure they are having a sensory friendly showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince too! Sunday 7/26 11 a.m. Game Time 2:00 p.m. Kane County Cougars -Geneva, IL Autism Day at the Kane County Cougars! see kccougars.com and autismillinois.org This is a fun and low-key event...smaller crowds...every seat is great...easy in and out...and bring your loved ones with autism - you will be among friends! July 27-29th Jewel Shop N Share for ASI See autismillinois.org to download a coupon! I know you get these from so many groups...but there is no easier way to help out ASI so please print out and USE the coupons...and tell your friends! Thursday, August 6th, 2009 6:30-10:00pm A Night at the Races Maywood Park Racetrack 8600 West North Avenue Melrose Park, Illinois $40 admission includes Valet Parking and fabulous buffet dinner Cash Raffle tickets available (winner need not be present) / basket raffles at the event! see autismillinois.org I LOVE this event... incredible up close view of the finish line, easy betting, and fantastic buffet food! August 15th - 9:00 race/walk start Rally for Autism 5K Run/Walk Libertyville, IL see rallyforautism.com or register online at signmeup.com/63319 Our 7th annual event - whether you are a competitive runner or want to enjoy a walk in a beautiful forest preserve please join us. And new this year - expanded activities for the kids with a Fun Fair from Fun Services Inc.! Saturday, September 12th All Day Event Hope Ride for Autism to benefit the Autism Society of Illinois Starts at Woodstock Harley son and ends at Lions Park in Waterman. Get on your leather and fire up those hogs! Take a fun ride with hundreds of bikers all for a fantastic cause! Ending in Waterman IL for an afternoon of family fun! And I almost forgot the Hope For All Golf Outing August 10 in Hawthorn Woods visit hopeforallfoundation.org thanks! **************What's for dinner tonight? Please take note of these exciting Paralympic sport opportunities coming up in the next few days: 1. Celebration of International Paralympic Day with the Variety Club and dare2Tri at Northerly Island on Thursday, September 8 at 3:30pm. Come and cheer on the two young athletes who will receive the surprise of new equipment to make their ParaTriathlon goals a reality. Athletes will also be practicing their transitions from cycling to running. A GREAT way to celebrate the international day of recognition for Paralympic eligible athletes! 2. On Saturday, September 10 at 5:15pm, GLASA hosts its 4th annual 5K Twilight Run, Walk and Roll through scenic Lake Forest. Awards will be presented to athletes who use racing chairs, handcycles, personal wheelchairs, guide runners, and the able bodied folks as well. It is CARA certified and a great post-party is provided. More information is attached and available here .. 3. On Saturday, September 17 at 8am, WSSRA is hosting its annual “Makin’ Tracks” 5K at Concordia University in River Forest. Athletes with disabilities are encouraged to participate in this fun event and accessible course! More information is attached and available here. 4. On Sunday, September 18 at 1pm, the dare2Tri ParaTriathlon group is partnering with the Chicago Park District to host their first “Try-Athlon” at Shabbona Park. More information is attached. The distances are very beginner friendly—“short” and “shorter”, the swim will be done in a pool, and there are relay teams for those who are not ready for all three sports. Registered athletes will get a t-shirt, event bag full of goodies and finisher’s medal. Come out and be part of the filming of the new fall ABC series “Everyday Health Heroes” during the race!
