Guest guest
We got the call tonight. Wanted to talk to Art, who is the worker for Adam. I was right there when teh call came in and Art kept answering " I have not been asked anything by AFSCME..no union has contacted me. I got on the line, because of course I am a control freak, and I asked who is conducting the survey, " the union " and I said we are not interested. I am annoyed, not surprised the state sells our private contact data to the union. Cindi

Guest guest
Cindi, the state didn't sell your information to the Unions. They were forced to provide it under the Freedom of Information Act. And they only gave workers names, etc. So that's why they were asking for Art. Lilia has shared with me that they tried to weed out names of workers who were living at the same address as the person with a disability. But their success was spotty for some reason. I am more annoyed that Gov. Quinn signed that Directive. Guest guest
Just to raise blood pressure a little more: this seems very analogous to what happened when the charter schools in NY were forced to hire (or pay 18 - 33% higher union wages to) teacher's assistants. Note these schools were able to attract fully degreed teachers as assistants at the lower rate, but had to accept Associate Degree/low experience union members instead. Any parents think a union will provide better care than themselves or those they hire? > > I certainly wonder who is paying for the calls....and do either of them > really care about our loved ones or are they just trying to swell their ranks > so they get even more power???? > > I can't wait until the next election....maybe then we will see some real > CHANGE...but I doubt it... > > > In a message dated 8/3/2009 6:20:28 P.M. Guest guest
Just a note from over on the Personal Assistant/DRS side of things, where apparently our workers have had union representation for awhile and I didn't know it (we weren't asked to sign any forms, no membership dues that I can see taken out of paychecks etc). 's PAs just got an hourly rate increase effective July 1 from $9.85/hour up to $10.65/hour. I know this because of the brightly colored glossy postcard that arrived in the mailbox several weeks ago from AFSCME, announcing to 's workers what their 'union representation' had accomplished. , by the way, was completely in charge of deciding WHO she wanted to have helping her with various in-home tasks. The lady sent by an agency was asked not to return after one short visit; no problem switching over to people knew and trusted who are not employees of the union or agencies. And no, as her parent I was not questioned about my background or experience other than the usual employment app that everyone needed to complete. In fact, I didn't even have to do a background/criminal or drug check. Not sure what I think about all this, but so far in the DRS program with union representation, it doesn't seem too onerous. I assume, though, since I haven't found a deduction on the paychecks going to them that they're getting some amount paid off the top -- money has got to be coming from somewhere! I just don't know where right now. Will keep looking and keep you posted. L. Re: caller ID said . . . Guest guest
We just got something in the mail about unionizing from SEIU and it is basically very negative about the other union. Guest guest
NOT privy to the exact method that was used to give out this info...I am all about FOI. What about hipa...privacy, confidentiality. It is one more thing to get boiled about..and how can I/my son be protected. we sign all kinds of docuements spelling out who can/cannot get his info, and now the state under Lilia's leadership, is giving out that kind of info. This entire thing stinks. Lets keep blaming the governor..yet the person who handed out the names and numbers should be held to some kind of standard...perhaps letting us know that our privacy is about to be invided. There are so many meetings between teh director and advocates, perhaps we need to let the director know we really want privacy. I think I am concerned with a director who answers a union FOI request, and we families dont hear a peap from the director. I am soo venting and even more now that I know this info was clearly handed over like our kids lives without so much as a debate. Who'se side is the drector on anyway...for too long we have protected unions..politicians..and soft shoe every one, while our people with DD are dust. There is no answer. friendlyu to this, but there is also no deffence to this either. I felt ambushed by the call..not sure what country I was in if such info is so available. Stop defending any of them in Springfield...we just keep ketting worse and worse. We are to blame because we keep letting this crap happen to us. Until we, the advocate, all of us get mad and stop defending ANY of them, we have onlyourselves to blame.
