Guest guest
I know what you are saying, . If someone chooses to advocate for his/her kid by promoting the concept of being paid for these hours, it would be with the understanding that some people will misinterpret it. It seems to me, that once you have a kid with disabilities, there are people who will not understand a lot of your life. Part of being a world-educating advocate means dealing with stupid comments from some of the folks you are educating. Not everyone WANTS to understand. And the real problem is not that parents are being paid by the state to care for their adult kids with DD, the problem is that reliable, competent, caring individuals are hard to find for this work, especially at this level of pay. If I had that story about the unions (which I don't, so maybe I don't get it either), and I felt manipulated, I would probably write the letter to the editor for several papers. Here's what my points would be: " I've been trained over the decades by medical professionals to care for my disabled kid's complicated medical needs. I've been willing to pass along that training, but I cannot find any reliable and caring person willing to do the work for that pay. This has become a chronic problem for many households like mine, so the state has provided for parents to be paid. " It sounds crazy, but it is a way of helping those parents have some limited source of income, since their adult children cannot be safely left alone and since it is exceedingly difficult to find someone else to do this demanding work. " I would NOT read the cluelss comments to such a letter in the online version of the papers. -Gail From: rams110300 <rams110300@ . com> Subject: Concerns with Unions and their efforsts raising a concern. I have forgoten the other, maybe SEIU. Second, phone calls from both. Asking for both of my In Home support Workers. I asked how they got names and info. Reply, The State. Requested Both, take off list and not to call. This Monday, Two individuals showed up at my door again, asking for Home base workers to join the union. I drilled them for info again. Suggested an invaision of privacy. They said they got information again from state. ( I truly question given December 2008, The refusal to turn over a list to the pests.) I asked them where is the money going to come from to pay for the unions overhead, administraition, wages, benefits, perks when the amount that is allocated to the waiver program is no even enough to support the current needs. They assured me they were going to work hard to increase the the funds coming into the waiver program. My comment to them, for those who now me, GOOD LUCK! & Stop traying to reduce what little resources are availeble to our individuals. I made a strong request for them, again, to remove my workers for their list and their bodies from my propery. Most Import thing I had forgoten**** ***(I used Today when the second union rep. came to my door.) Our community has an ordinace that any one coming into the community to solicit needs to have a permit. So, when AFSCME Council 31 showed up, I asked them all the info to report to the police. They do not have a permit of the right to be doing this. I have shared the with Assocs. Secretary Grace Hou at a meeting yesterday. I ask her if there was a way to may family information private and unaccessable the these entities. There were others that were present the resounded that these occerences are creating serious conseqences for them and their workers. If these unions are approaching your personal propery the poliece advise you to stop by, file a report, get a no tresspass sign, a no solisitation sign, call them. Asking for dues to join the union is soliciting money and forbiden. check your local ordineces, must residence are unaware of this.
