Guest guest
Greetings to all members. Over the week end I went home and as I was in Nakuru Bus Stop I saw a man selling grafted mangoes, Oranges and Avocados. I thought of the initiative to buy these trees and plant them over the week end to start the initiative by my self and my family first. I planted 30 grafted fruits as a start to motivate me and my community to carry out this initiative. I am leaving for home on august 12th and I would love to start this in a big way. I hope the donated seedling will have arrived, also the Icraf Kisumu branch are waiting so that I make the move and they join in. I still would like to rally your support and encouragement in this initiative. I plan to give out 3000 trees by 14th August as a start and I would like to buy these seedlings one tree seedling ready for planting is going for 15 KSH and you can Mpesa it to my number 0717989877 or Zap 0733792940. One of the boys I have worked with has come up with this suggestion that we write boards to show the donors of the trees. For example if I donate for 20 trees we will put the name of the donor that this tree was donated and planted for or by Tom Obiero and the date will be there. And if you want to donate and you don't want your board then we leave it. Also the tree planting Initiative proposal is over if any of you would like to receive it feel free to contact me. Otherwise thanks alot to all who have called, and emailed me to continue with this Just read below the importance of tree. Tom Obiero THE IMPORTANCE OF TREES Trees are the largest and longest living organisms on earth. To grow tall the tree has become a miracle of engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is able to take water and salts out of the earth and lift them up to the leaves, sometimes over 400 ft above. By means of photosynthesis the leaves combine the water and salts with carbon dioxide from the air to produce the nutrients which feed the tree. In this process, as well as wood, trees create many chemicals, seeds and fruit of great utility to man. Trees also remove carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, from the air. Trees are of continued importance to the environment. Tropical rain forests have of particular significance; although they now occupy less than 6 per cent of the land surface of the earth they probable sustain more than half of the biological species on the planet. Notwithstanding the debt we owe to trees, their emotive power, and their importance to other forms of life, the forested area of the earth is steadily being depleted. This is leading to the degradation of the environment and the extinction of many species. There is now a real danger that in the not very distant future man will destroy a large proportion of the present population of species on earth, create an uninhabitable environment, and then die out himself. If this happens it will not be the first time that a large proportion of the species on the earth have been extinguished. 3 of 3 Photo(s) Tree
