Greetings everyone,

This is a nice initiative where we will all appreciate what we are

doing to the society. As the Economics Students Association from

University of Nairobi, it is our duty and conserving the environment

is a vital objective for the Association. It is therefore our wishes

that it succeeds and hence we all share the glory. Its our Kenya,

lets Green It.

Through the Kenya Youth Empowerment and Employment Initiative, we are

also involved in tree planting exercise which we hope will be held

next month in Mau Forest. We

Subject: The Brains behind Ngong Hills Reforestation; 2nd

April 2011

Friends,

I was in a meeting with Imani Children Homes Officials at 7.00am

this morning and I was amazed that the brains behind the Ngong Hills Reforestation on 2nd

April is a 9 year old girl; Ms Kitty Valk.

Imani Children Home is home to almost 400 children in 6 different

locations; Kayole A Soweto, Kayole B Matopeni, Malindi, Ngong,

Kasarani and Kibera. They have been hiking at Ngong Hills for the

past several years and early this year, Kitty asked the Home if

they could do something to help clean Ngong Hills of the rubbish

that we deposit there. She also asked if they as children could

help in planting 1,500 trees on the Hill.

It was at this point that Imani Children Home invited KCDN to

partner with them.

Now, through this partnership, we are happy to report progress made

so far. We have had discussions with the area DC Ngong, DO 1 Ngong,

the Director of Kenya Forestry Services and his senior officers and

the District Environmental Committee Kajiado North District. We

have made approaches and the following partners have come on board

in the following manner;

Imani Children Home children;

will plant 1,500 seedlings Kenya Forestry Services- will

give 20,000 seedlings Kings Wear Collections- is

donating 12 Sign Posts Economic Students Association of

the University of Nairobi

We will be posting

the participation of other partners as they confirm the levels of

their participation.

The host for the event is Hon Prof Saitoti- the Minister for

Provincial Administration and Internal Security. He is also the

area Member of Parliament. We are working closely with him to draw

the Guest Lists which we will announce shortly.

We must appreciate Kitty Valk- the 9 year old girl who thought of

this Initiative. We must also appreciate Imani Children Home for

taking up the Reforestation of Ngong Hills as part of their

Corporate Social Responsibility.

All the volunteers who would like to join us, kindly reach out to
