Guest guest
Anti-Aids campaigners unfair to men Updated 10 hr(s) 14 min(s) ago The world's efforts to eradicate HIV/Aids since 1984 are commendable though nothing much seems to have been achieved. The scourge is still endangering lives despite the vicious war against it. The anti-Aids crusaders sometimes adopt wrong approaches. For instance, the media campaign against spread of Aids among the married couples, `Wacha Mpango wa Kando: Epuka Ukimwi', is discriminative against men. The National Aids Control Council-sponsored advert portrays men as promiscuous and culprits in the spread of the virus. Though studies show married men are more promiscous than women and attacking them is rather ill-informed and unfair. It takes two to tango. The campaigners must address the real causes of HIV among married couples and stop sending out embarrassing and distorting messages. Elizaphan Ogechi, Nairobi. Married women should not be spared, either. They too contribute to the spread of the virus. An awareness campaign should not accuse anyone in particular. However, the advert is giving a good message — discouraging unfaithfulness among spouses.
