Farewell to a dedicated HIV/AIDS Researcher Dear Colleagues, It is with a lot of sadness and anger that I inform you of the death of yet another lead personality in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa, Professor Job Bwayo of the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative. Sadness because he was a great man who dedicated his life to advancing teaching of medicine and research in HIV and other STIs. He spent the latter part of his life as the PI for HIV vaccine research at the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI). I worked closely with him as a collaborating partner in the community involvement activities, CAB member for KAVI and also in policy development and advocacy in Kenya and I knew his commitment to finding a user-friendly preventive vaccine that would especially change the threat of HIV especially for women in Africa. Anger because he met his death through the senseless violence that is being meted by gangsters on innocent members of our society. He was shot dead in a carjacking incident in one of the suburbs of Nairobi. Personally I have lost a friend, a mentor, a colleague and a dedicated researcher. Fare thee well Prof! ine Irungu,Kenya
