Guest guest
Hello Mwende and All, I wish to echo and concur with your sentiments in your yesterday article regarding FGC(FGM).Well, Once again you have raised the alarm as you did with raping and the bill was passed in paliament.I hope they read this. FGM should be abolished as it entails complications in child birth. Its a retrogressive practise that isnt worth perpetuating. Its amazing to note even in western world some immigrants and refugees carry this customs with them despite stiff legistration in place. I once lived in neignbourhod of a community that pratised this cultural norm and infact i shared classroom with some of those who had undergone the cut. Most of them confessed they did it involuntarily to please their parents. As you put it, "its the education not legistration that will help".We need to recruit members of these communities who doesnt believe in FGM and train them as educators..We must get people who are privy to their customs to educate them by raising awareness on dangers of FGM.Also people who will be easily accomondated, otherwise people outside these communities will be dismissed as intruders. The target group should be the older generation who still uphold this beliefs. We need the voices of Mwendes and the battle will be triumphantly won. With thanks, Njoroge Want to be your own boss? Learn how on Small Business.
