Guest guest
Hi, When you mentioned 18 pills a day I began to wonder if he is taking Flaxseed Oil capsules. If so, this could be important. I do not believe the capsules can be effective against cancer. They would simply be not enough. Cliff My father takes daily: -Flaxseed oil + cottage cheese -Ellagic acid and graviola ( " Ellagic Acid Insurance Formula " ) - 18 pills a day! Guest guest
Hello, I don't know what the rest of your fathers diet is like but from what I have read foods that you don't eat are as important as the foods you do it. There are certain foods you shouldn't eat and some of these can be found at www.cancertutor.com and then go to the " Ten Commandments of an Alternative Cancer Treatment Program " section. Also have a look at http://home.online.no/~dusan/diseases/cancer/cancer_dr_budwig.html for more information. Terry NEED ADVICE – Tumor continues to grow Hi, My father was diagnosed 4 months ago with " terminal " bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). The cancer has spread to his liver (tumor is about 10cm across). He is receiving a chemo drug called Gemzar. We have changed his diet and given him many supplements (see below). Six weeks ago, he had a CT scan of his liver to check the effectiveness of the chemo. The scan showed that the tumor did not grow. We were thrilled. But today, a second scan was performed and the results were bad – the tumor continues to grow. Can someone please comment/suggest changes to the protocol we have him on? My father takes daily: -Flaxseed oil + cottage cheese -Ellagic acid and graviola ( " Ellagic Acid Insurance Formula " ) – 18 pills a day! -MGN-3 -Noni juice -Oligomeric proanthocyanidins - " Immune Stasis " – contains astragalus, shiitake, thymus, etc. -Fish oil - -Milk thistle - " Kyolic " -Proteolytic enzymes -Co Q-10 -Lipoic acid -Selenium -all the vitamins and minerals - " Kyo-green " -Whey protein -Green tea We have also completely changed his diet, but the tumor continues to advance. Guest guest
Darryl, don't you think that all white flour products, processed foods and junk foods and drinks, should be eliminated? They serve no purpose in nutrition, as I understand healthful living. Re: NEED ADVICE - Tumor continues to grow Work to have him watch many funny tapes or DVD's. This may help raise spirits. Looks like lots of supplements. What is being eaten or drunk everyday? Work hard to have an alkaline diet. What other antioxidants are taken if any? Antioxidants should be taken through out the day. Minimum water that should be drank everyday is (body weight) / 2 = (how much water should be drank). I recommend distilled or reverse osmoses water with lemon juice. How many meals per day are eaten and how many meals are removed? Toxins are often stored in the colon. Some form of good bacterial should be used to clean the colon. Eat lots of raw organic fruits and vegetables from farmers market Eliminate soft drinks and carbonated beverages Eliminate coffee Eliminate sugar Limit white flour Limit processed foods Hope this helps. Guest guest
How do you know it is cholangio and pancreatic at the head of the pancreas? Have you been tracking CA 19-9? If there has been any surgical intervention you had better check his lungs for metastasis. Any ascites? What about his CBC and blood chemistry -- any values out of range? If cholangiocarcinoma, do you know what caused it? flukes? anise-flavored alcohol? Might make a difference in choice of therapies. There are many strategies that can put cholangiocarcinoma into a sustainable remission. Some require caution, e.g., triptolide. If there has been surgical intervention you should check the lungs for mets. A good choice would be bromopyruvate. Sometime you can get away with radiofrequency ablation or percutaneous ethanol injection. You can usually get control of cholangiocarcinoma in a couple of weeks if you don't have any surprises (eg. obstructions) and if you don't have anyone undermining you with their palliative strategies. Also you need to drop most of the things that you are doing. NEED ADVICE - Tumor continues to grow Hi, My father was diagnosed 4 months ago with " terminal " bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). Guest guest
Sorry about the confusion. I meant that he is taking 18 pills a day of the " Ellagic Acid Insurance Formula. Guest guest
, The tumor board (that's what they call it) at the Univ of North Carolina decided my father's cancer is cholangiocarcinoma. It is very rare. No ascites. No metastasis to the pancreas or lungs. Low red and white blood cell counts due to chemo. The doctors don't know what caused the cancer. My father hardly drinks alcohol, doesn't smoke or eat bad. I'm not sure what a " fluke " is. The tumor is very large and inoperable. It is smack in the middle of the liver and has wrapped itself around the main arteries and bile ducts. We asked the doctors about radiofrequency ablation and percutaneous ethanol injection, but they ruled it out becuase of the proximity of the tumor to the main arteries, which would act like heat sinks or rupture. Not sure what bromopyruvate is, but I'll look into it. Thanks. > How do you know it is cholangio and pancreatic at the head of the pancreas? > Have you been tracking CA 19-9? Guest guest
It is useful to check the literature of counties where a type of cancer is common. Thailand has a high rate of cholangiocarcinoma and they are ahead of the crowd in treatments. I have been sharing information with Chinese researchers using triptolide and we have been using it in Mexico. Triptolide is very toxic in high doses although very safe if used correctly. It requires refrigeration as epoxides are not very stable. Laws in North Carolina have a reputation of being a bit more liberal than the rest of the country and if you have a willing clinician I am willing to provide it without cost. The article below mentions its use with TNF alpha, but the beta works also. It is long past the time when you can attack a 10 cm hilar cholangiocarcinoma with simple corrective or immune therapies and expect results. Too many things can go wrong very quickly and your father can find himself in a situation of several different obstructions, ascites, confusion, severe pain, vomiting that is not relieved by the usual antiemetics, and intractable hepatic decompensation. This cancer is very difficult but certainly not impossible. You are unlikely to get any help from timid surgeons and from chemo-oncologists who have already blown it with a sadly uninspired gemzar therapy. My apologies to all on the list who are big believers in natural medicines and think that too often I suggest things that are radical. I think like you, but sometimes you must step far beyond what is routinely available in conventional or natural medicine. Nothing will ever change as long as people are so absurdly reverent to their incompetent conventional physicians with their patent medicines. Too many people are informed that they are terminal, so what do they do? They fret a bit and lay down and die. When you hear such nonsense why doesn't your blood boil? Do you think that you are getting value for all the money you've poured into your medical insurance? What do you think as the government and major pharmaceutical companies try to take over all herbal medicines, nutriceuticals, and vitamins and control them or criminalize them? Medicine, medical products, medical services and medical research in the US is one and a half trillion dollars per year and you still think that all the major players want to see an end to cancer and other chronic diseases? No? What are you going to do about it? You can learn about the treatments that work, take responsibility for your own health, and tell everyone who will listen what you are doing, and why you are doing it. That is the starting place. You saw that big statue of Saddam Hussein come down? That is what is in store for big pharma if you are tired of having your blood, your dollars, and your life sucked out of you. Learn to take care of yourself and fend for yourself. Br J Surg. 2002 Aug; 89(8): 962-70. Liver fluke-associated cholangiocarcinoma. Watanapa P, Watanapa WB. Departments of Surgery and Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok 10 700, Thailand. a BACKGROUND: Infection with liver flukes has been reported to be associated with bile duct malignancy. METHODS: The review is based on a literature search (Medline) and, in some cases, direct contact with authors or principal investigators. RESULTS: A large body of evidence indicates that Opisthorchis viverrini is a definite cause of human cholangiocarcinoma, whereas Clonorchis sinensis is a probable cause. The evidence regarding Opisthorchis felineus is insufficient to assess its role in carcinogenesis. Possible mechanisms of carcinogenesis include chronic irritation, nitric oxide formation, intrinsic nitrosation and activation of drug-metabolizing enzymes. Early detection of bile duct malignancy is difficult and not clinically available at present, although cholangiocarcinoma-associated soluble antigen has been reported in an experimental study to be a useful early marker of cancer development. Long-term survival after surgical treatment of liver fluke-associated cancer is similar to that reported in patients without liver fluke infestation. CONCLUSION: Liver fluke-associated cholangiocarcinoma is still a health problem in developing countries. Mechanisms of carcinogenesis should be explored further in order to reduce the impact of this disease. Asian Pac J Allergy Immunol. 2002 Sep; 20(3): 167-73. Synergistic cytotoxicity and apoptosis induced in human cholangiocarcinoma cell lines by a combined treatment with tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and triptolide. Panichakul T, Wanun T, Reutrakul V, Sirisinha S. Laboratory of Immunology, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Bangkok 10210, Thailand. Cholangiocarcinoma is known to be relatively resistant to chemotherapy. One alternative approach is to use a combination of an immunomodulating agent with an anticancer drug. Here we studied the synergistic actions of TNF-alpha and triptolide (a diterpene epoxide prepared from Tripterygium wilfordii), previously shown to have antitumor activity against hamster cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cells. Three human CCA cell lines (HuCCA-1, HubCCA-1, KKU-100 cell lines) were subjected to a combined treatment of TNF-alpha (0.1-10 ng/ml) and triptolide (5-50 ng/ml) for 24 hours in microculture plates. The combination of TNF-alpha and triptolide had a significantly increased cytotoxic activity over that of triptolide alone (p < 0.05). Under the same conditions, TNF-alpha by itself was not cytotoxic to these cell lines. Similarly, the combined treatment could also accelerate apoptotic cell death in all three human cholangiocarcinoma cell lines. The combined treatment of TNF-alpha at 10 ng/ml and triptolide at 50 ng/ml for 6-10 hours achieved a percentage of apoptotic cells shown by DAPI staining of 18-65%, compared to only 6-20% apoptotic cells for triptolide alone. Analyzing the possible mechanisms of the combined treatment, we found by Western blot that at 6 hours, there was a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage which was not detectable by the treatment of either TNF-alpha or triptolide alone. The cleavage of PARP was inhibited when the cells were pretreated with the enzyme inhibitor AC-DEVD-CMK, suggesting that apoptosis induced by the combination of TNF-alpha and triptolide involved activation of caspase 3. These results indicate that apoptosis of human cholangiocarcinoma cell lines as induced by a combination of TNF-alpha and triptolide is mediated through caspase 3 activation. Cancer Lett. 1998 Nov 27; 133(2): 169-75. Antitumor activity of triptolide against cholangiocarcinoma growth in vitro and in hamsters. Tengchaisri T, Chawengkirttikul R, Rachaphaew N, Reutrakul V, Sangsuwan R, Sirisinha S. Laboratory of Immunology, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok, Thailand. One of the diverse biological activities of triptolide, a diterpene from Tripterygium wilfordii, is its antitumor effect. We recently reported its in vitro cytotoxicity against several cultured tumor cell lines. Limited availability of purified fraction has prevented detailed investigation on its antitumor activity. In the present study, we showed by in vitro cytotoxicity assay and in vivo inhibition of tumor growth in hamsters that the triptolide was also highly effective against cholangiocarcinoma, a highly fatal tumor predominantly occurring in developing countries. Its ED50 for these hamster cholangiocarcinoma cell lines was found to be as low as 0.05 microg/ml. The compound was highly potent in the induction of apoptotic death in these tumor cells. DNA fragmentation and disintegrating apoptotic cells could be observed within 24 h of exposure to 0.5 microg/ml triptolide. The compound was tested against the growth of cholangiocarcinoma in a hamster model. A significant growth inhibition (P < 0.05) was noted in triptolide-treated hamsters (each of the 10 animals received 10 injections for a total of 1.2 mg/animal). At the time of sacrifice 1 month after the initial injection, the mean tumor mass of the treated group was only 20-25% of that of the control group.
