Guest guest
First posted to the Internet - December 31, 2001. Subject: A 1977 Nobel Prize winner in Medicine and the former Director of Biochemical Research for the Kingdom of Spain think that TAC (Thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid), a chemical related to Penicillin, might be effective in the treatment of cancer; however, the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) does not - TAC " ....would have negative effects on patients and was not a safe cure for any cancer.... " This page and the attached bulletin Congress - Questions U.S. Doctors! are being mailed to - President W. Bush, The White House, Washington, D.C. Professor V. Schally, the Nobel Prize winner. From 1994 to 2000, Dr. Schally experimented in the laboratory with compounds containing TAC (primarily RC-3940-II) and published 13 articles in which he stated that these compounds might be effective in causing the " inhibition of growth " of many human cancers. Professor Gosalvez, for 30 years the Director of Biochemical Research for the Kingdom of Spain. In a 1979 clinical trial Dr. Gosalvez and Dr. Brugarolas discovered that TAC (by itself) was able to cause the " ....disappearance of evidence of cancer. " In a July 20, 2001 letter to me Dr. Gosalvez stated that TAC is presently being used in combination with a form of Adriamycin (a very toxic anti-cancer medicine) to treat cancer patients in U.S. Military Hospitals. Dr. Gosalvez calls the procedure " Cancer Reversal by Dual Strategy " . Representative J. Visclosky, Indiana's 1st Congressional District. In a May 16, 2001 letter to a Schererville, IN, citizen, Congressman Visclosky stated: " Several years ago my office contacted the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to inquire about S. ' cancer cure proposal (j.s.r. - It involves TAC.). The response we received from the National Cancer Institute indicated that Mr. ' cure would have negative effects on patients and was not a safe cure for any cancer.... " For further clarification, Congressman Visclosky referred the matter to Tommy , Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. On behalf of Secretary , Dorothy A. Foellmer, Director of Legislation and Congressional Activities, National Cancer Institute, wrote a June 28, 2001 letter to the Schererville citizen that contains this paragraph: " In your letter to Mr. Visclosky, you expressed an interest in the work of Mr. S. . Mr. has made claims on the internet that a compound, Thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (TAC), can cure cancer. Since 1955, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has actively evaluated materials that might be useful in the discovery of new agents for cancer treatment through the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP). Extensive testing of TAC was conducted in 1979 by DTP. No anti-tumor activity was found and the testing was stopped. As part of the drug discovery process, DTP receives agents from many sources, including universities, research institutes, government agencies, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical houses. The testing done on TAC was initiated because of reports from a human trial that was done in Spain. The compound was tested on numerous animal tumor models, but failed to show any anti-tumor activity. " S. note - The Spanish clinical trial (involving human beings) achieved the " ....disappearance of evidence of cancer. " The results were reported in 'The Lancet', January 12, 1980, pages 68-70, " Treatment of Cancer by an Inducer of Reverse Transformation " . The only follow up study I can discover that was initiated by the NCI (grant CA-24543 and Contract N01-CM-97278) was done on rats and mice and reported in 'Cancer Treatment Reports' Vol. 64, No. 8-9, August/September 1980, pages 837-844, " Pharmacologic and Toxicologic Evaluation of Thioproline: A Proposed Nontoxic Inducer of Reverse Transformation " . (j.s.r. - Thioproline is TAC.)
