I missed the " megson thing " reference -- however, don't overlook the spraying of insecticides around the baseboards of the interior walls (to kill stray spiders, ants, and roaches) every 30 days inside many public, and most commercial buildings (especially those with " lunch rooms " -- and especially inside about 99% of all grocery stores (where it's done at night). Also, 'cool white' fluorescent lights were shown to induce many behavioral and mood problems by Ott, whose research was first published 50 years ago : from: The Role of Light in Health http://www.keelynet.com/biology/light1.txt In experiments on first grade students in Sarasota, researchers have found that children who work in a classroom with cool white fluorescent lighting are more hyperactive than students in another classroom with full-spectrum fluorescent tubes which duplicate natural sunlight but with shields to stop harmful radiation. " Under the standard, cool white fluorescent lighting, some first graders showed nervous fatigue, irritability, lapses of attention and hyperactive behavior, " says Ott, author of Health And Light (Pocket Books, $1.95). " Within a week after the new lights were installed, the children settled down and paid more attention to their teachers. " Also: -- At the Center for Improvement of Undergraduate Education, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., students working in a class with fluorescent light closely approximating sunlight experienced a significant increase in visual acuity and a reduction in overall fatigue, compared to performance under regular fluorescent lights. -- West Germany's government restricts the use of cool white limited-spectrum fluorescent bulbs in public buildings because of their distorted spectral output. -- Ott contends that another major problem with all gaseous- discharge types of lights, including the mercury vapor and limited- spectrum fluorescent light, is that they emit radiation that grossly weakens muscle strength, affecting both academic achievement and behavior. -- " Even ordinary light bulbs are preferable to the total artificiality of the fluorescent environment. " -- Dr. H.L. Newbold, in his book " Mega-nutrients for Your Nerves " One way of rating light is by a color rendering index, the CRI. [sunlight has a CRI] of 100. Full-spectrum fluorescent, 91; standard cool white fluorescent, 68; other fluorescent, 56. Under natural light or an artificial source that duplicates natural light, there is less human fatigue and stress and better visual acuity and production, studies have shown. Guest guest
I agree, also so www.handle.org . My kids were tested to have great difficulty with the wavelengths! I proposed to his and her classroom that they have ambient lighting or natural lighting, (with much wrangling), and teachers have reported a sudden decline in all the behaviors in the classroom. Let's not also forget, most of our school lawns are sprayed by a host of things that makes our kids sick as well as the carpets containing formaldehyde. Guest guest
I think she says whole, but I could be wrong here? I think both would be a bad idea anyways, but you can check her web site out. Personally, I really feel that some fatty acids are so off in our kids, it is a general fatty acid dysregulation problem? I believe before CLO you should probably work on EPO first for a few weeks then go on CLO as our children do not convert fatty acids very well, See her site at www.megson.com Kathy Re: [ ] lights with mercury > > >> wrote: >>> >>>Maybe a stupid question here but here goes... >>>In most stores they have overhead mercury fluorescent lights... >>>notice your kids go wacko in the stores and also schools for >>>that matter? Guest guest
Kathy wrote: > How do we know this? Are they really intact? If a fluorescent light is operating normally, then it is not leaking -- unless it was cracked very recently, such as by rough handling during installation. If a fluorescent light is leaking, it will soon dim, or go dark, because it cannot light when the pressurized gasses escape. That does NOT mean that all dim or 'burned out' fluorescent lights have been leaking -- that is rare. They usually 'burn out' for other reasons -- at least I hope so. However I have seen a normally operating fluorescent light tube 'explode', while mounted in a fixture 12 feet above the floor, where no one had touched it for months. It cracked around one end and the pressure expelled a small cloud of white phosphor powder, along with all of the pressurized gasses, including mercury. I'm sure this is very rare, but if it happens, the ventilation (if any) will carry the gasses throughout the building. Ventilation systems are designed to recirculate about 95% of indoor air, with only about 5% 'make-up' (fresh air) replacement per cycle. Guest guest
Don't know about the out-gasing, but fluorescent lights do cycle and buzz. Most of us can't see/hear these effects but for folks with autism who have hypersensitive vision and hearing they do. It would be like have strobe lights and smoke detectors going off. Would certainly make me wacko!
