Guest guest
Cheryl: Vitamin C is oxidative in higher doses...low doses (under 5 grams per day) it is an antioxidant because it primarily strengthens/reactivates E and A...if it has the whole bioflavanoid complex and not just chemical L-Ascorbic (which is not found alone in nature but always bound to bioflavanoids and vitamin K)...It becomes progressively oxidative with greater doses. Remember there is always a give and take...the same substance which can be oxidative one minute becomes antioxidant the next (Redox chemistry...)... I thought Flaxseed oil was NOT oxidative primarily...its electrons balance free radical damage and acts more as an antioxidant if anything from what I understand Budwig's & others studies show...?? Maybe Vince has some thoughts here?... Dr.Bormann Cheryl Wilburn wrote: Hi Group, The question about taking Vit. C with flax oil reminded me of an interesting study that I had read. Unfortunately, I am away from home and can't find the original reference, but from memory.... A study was done in mice that showed that because flax oil is readily taken up by tumor cells and is highly oxidative it acted as sort of a natural form of chemotherapy. In effect, the cancer cells were more subject to free radical damage due to the oil. It would seem that the use of antioxidant therapy would offset this effect. Cliff, do you know if those who have had the most success with the flax oil therapy have used the therapy alone, or along with other therapies? Cheryl W. Hi Cliff: Is it NECESSARY to take vitamin C, when we are taking COTTAGE CHEESE AND FLAXOIL? because of not, it will not do any good? I know you know a lot about it. Gaby. Guest guest
EFA's such as found in Flaxseed oil probably have a number of beneficial activities. One is that they push fatty acid cascade toward prostaglandins of the 1 and 3 variety and away for type 2. The result is decreased inflammatory response by interfering with the cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) pathways. There is good data that many cancers use cox 2 pathways for progression and metastases. This is why Life Extension Foundation and others recommend 2 inhibitors (Lodine, Celebrex, Vioxx) as adjunctive cancer therapy. Apparantly this effect can be increased significantly by using statins as well (Mevacor for example). Statins have an effect on RAS oncogenese regulation. You can read about these two issues here http://www.lef.org/protocols/prtcl-027.shtml EFA's also help with creating a healthy lipid bi-layer in the cell wall, and also have an effect modulating the immune system. I am sure I am just scratching the surface. Best, [ Guthrie] To CLIFF: is it necessary to take...?
