Guest guest
Dear Kathy, In a message dated 09/14/2001 10:59:56 AM Eastern Daylight Time, InghamSeeker@... writes: > Uh, guys, this conference is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and > the American Cancer Society. No, it's not. It's co-sponsored by Jim Gordon's Ctr for Mind-Body Medicine (a huge promoter and supporter of alt. cancer treatment) and the Univ. of Texas Medical School (as I assume you read on Ben's post, which you were replying to). It is " supported by " NCI and NCCAM, " in collaboration with " ACS and 3 other groups. > You really think you are going to get good > information from a conference sponsored by the cut, poison and burn folks? > ....Just my opinion, Kathy Ingham In principle, I'd consider this a fair question IF it in fact were sponsored by those folks or if the content of the conference were controlled by them, but it's obviously not (I doubt ACS would even allow the conference to happen, if they could help it). Have you checked out the conference website (www.cmbm.org/conferences/ccc2001/brochure/index.html) or inquired about the previous conferences (I think abstracts from 1 of them is listed on their website) before drawing that conclusion? Also, are you aware that NCI (though perhaps not ACS) appears to have become substantially more supportive of CAM cancer treatments the past few years? (I'm in no way defending NCI's behavior prior to the past few years, and I'm in no way defending ACS). I had already spent hundreds of hours reading (over a dozen books and dozens of websites and articles) on alt. cancer treatments prior to attending their conference last year, and I still learned an immense amount, particularly from (1 of their keynote speakers) and Ralph Moss. Why do you think it not possible to " get good information " from Moss, , or Block (to mention only a few of this year's excellent presenters) simply because the conference is " supported by " NCI, " in collaboration with " ACS? I don't blame you for venting animosity toward ACS and NCI. I have no respect whatsoever for ACS (nor NCI until recently) and feel hatred toward them that often borders on murderous rage. But I think that dismissing a conference like this is a highly misdirected (and self-defeating) way of expressing such feelings. > A conference that has been called " The most important alternative medical > meeting in America " will be held October 19-21 in Arlington, VA. Having attended the conference last year, I agree that this (along w/the previous years' conferences) may very well be he most important alternative medical conference in America. I respect your (informed) opinions, but I think it's irresponsible to make such negative comments about such a valuable conference. If it was simply an ACS conference (w/o any really good, alt. speakers), I could much better understand your skepticism. Sincerely, Leonard > Presented by The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and the University of Texas > Medical School at Houston, the conference, subtitled " Integrating > Complementary & Alternative Therapies, " will feature some of the world's most > highly respected authorities. Guest guest
Thank you Leonard. I didn't know all this, but also here in the Netherlands many doctors and in my eyes reliable people told me this is one of the best conferences there are. That's why I mention it in this group. Gr.
